I lock my Mac, go to a meeting or away for a while, come back, unlock my Mac and my VM screen is either grey or black.
Sometimes I can force it to display correctly with ctrl - cmd - f leaving full screen mode
Most of the times I have to suspend and un suspend the vm to get my screen back!
