All,
There's much I don't understand about virtual networking, perhaps someone can tell me if this is possible.
- VMware Fusion Version 6.0.2
- mac OSX 10.7.5.
- A graph database application as a VM offered by Franz: AllegroGraph.
- The OS running on the VM is Ubuntu 12.04.2.
On the VM (guest) I can start up an AllegroGraph server which is then accessible from a web browser in the guest at localhost:10035. If I use ifconfig to discover the IP address of the VM, I can then access the AllegroGraph server from the host machine using http with that IP address and port. This procedure works whether I use NAT, or bridged networking, but in both cases, the problem arises that the IP address changes.
What I'd like to accomplish is this:
Whatever the dynamically assigned IP address may be
- AllegroGraph would be serving on guest at localhost:10035,
- Web browser on host, pointed at localhost:9898 would communicatevia httpwith AllegroGraph server on guest, and
- Web browsers on the guest still able to communicate with internet via the host's connection.
Using VirtualBox, I was able to accomplish this via port forwarding (which I also only vaguely understood). Is there a way to do this with VMfusion?
Thanks for any insight you might offer.
Jon
