Hello all,
I am pretty new to VMware fusion so please bear with me. I think this is a Fusion-resolved situation although I am sure it is possible the problem is outlook (or chair to key error).
I am running VMWare Fusion 3 with a Windows XP Professional as a guest. I have 4 GB of memory and 2.5 alloted to the Mac and 1.5 alloted to the windows guest.
I am running just a few applications on the guest, one of which is Outlook 7. This morning when I attempted to start outlook (after a reboot of the entire system) I recieved an error that outlook could not find its ost files. Specifically, the error is as follows:
"errors have been detected in the file C:\documents and settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Dat\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.ost. Please run the scanpst.exe tool to diagnose and repair errors in the file".
I further cannot open outlook at all as outlook cannot find my default email folders (after I cancel this first message) a second appears that states:
This error can occur if you attempt to run Outlook from a Terminal Server session when the OST file is in use by the console session.
To access this instance of Outlook, exit the current Terminal Server session, and then start a new session by using the following Run command in Microsoft Windows:
mstsc.exe /CONSOLE
You must be an administrator on the computer that is accessing the console session. You cannot access a console session from a computer running Microsoft Windows XP Home edition. But you can do so from a computer running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, or Microsoft Windows Vista.
I know the ost file is not located in the standard windows location. but in a search I cannot turn it up in either the windows or the mac side. I am using mirrored folders.
I attempted to repair the outlook configuration, and even uninstall and reintstall it since I am workign with an exchange server all my folders are stored there. But even after repair, uninstall via both remove programs and through the outlook installation, reinstall and mutliple reboots of BOTH systems I still obtain this error.
Any advice is greatly apprecaited.
