PLEASE HELP - Upgrade to 6 NIGHTMARE (screenshots attached)

When will I ever EVER learn that if something is working, to forgo the promised "new improvements"?!

I was running V5 on a Mac retina laptop running Maverick, running Windows 7.  I upgraded to 6 and:

After rebooting Windows for the first time as is always required, it gives me a bizarre message that "changes have been applied to your desktop, click OK to log off so they can take affect".  I say bizarre because, I've never had Fusion do this on other upgrades, and I had already rebooted once.  So I allow Fusion to log me off and when I log back in it's set my text to large size 150%.  So I change it to 100% and log off for the change to take affect.  Takes forever to log back on and...my freaking DESKTOP is empty with every file/folder/shortcut on it GONE, with the message on the SECOND attached screenshot.  So I reboot and now I can't even log on to my freaking machine!!!  The message I get is now shown in the FIRST screenshot "user profile service failed the logon".

So this upgrade has so far wiped every file and folder off my desktop, and now I can't log in.

Any suggestions???

Sorry for being so worked up.

EDIT: The message in the first screenshot only shows up when I enter the CORRECT login password.  So it clearly recognizes the login so to speak, but can't find the profile.  Because if I purposely enter the wrong password, I instead get a message that tells me the password is incorrect.

EDIT: I did a search and did find another VMWare user reporting this issue, I am in the process of following these instructions and will report back.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215

BTW, is there no way to respond to my own post in this forum??  If there is I can't find it.
