FUSION 6 - Windows very sluggish at opening (Shared) MAC files

I can run Windows 7 Pro perfectly well in Fusion 6.0.2 and use it most for Microsoft Office 365 work. It is speedy when opening any 'Windows' files (.pptx, .xlsx, .docx,...) available inside my VM,

PROBLEM: However when I want to open MAC files (shared) it can take 20 to 30 seconds to open these files even though these can be very small files.

as if it took a long time to negotiate the connection to the Mac OS and transfer the file over. . . As I am opening files in Word for instance I can watch the 'contacting \\wmare-host\shared Folders\[path to my mac files I want to open]' for some time before the file finally opens.

QUESTIONS:

1- Is this the normal behavior?

2- If not, how can I fix this?

SYSTEM: New MBP Late 2013, MAC OS Mavericks, Fusion 6.0.2 with Windows 7 Pro, freshly installed.

I have 'Shared Folders' enabled in my VM Settings
