I am coming from Fusion 3, where I was able to successfully install VMwareTools-8.4.5-332101.tar.gz.
Now, in Fusion 5.0.0, trying to install VMwareTools-9.2.0-799703.tar.gz on the same guest os (Fedora Core 8 with kernel 2.6.21.7-5.fc8xen) stops at vmware-config-tools with the following error:
Initializing...
This configuration program is to be executed in a virtual machine.
Execution aborted.
Running /usr/sbin/vmware-checkvm returns:
Not running in a virtual machine.
I tried changing the compatibility level of the VM all the way back to Fusion 2 and 3, without any success.
I also tried running the vmware-checkvm program packaged in VMwareTools-8.4.5 and I received the same error message when running under Fusion 5.0.0.
Did Fusion 5 drop support for this kernel, or is there something I can do to get back VMware Tools for Linux?
