Shared folders showing strange behavior

I just installed VMWare Fusion 6.0.2, created a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 LTS guest and configured Shared folders for it. Using VMWare Tools (VMwareTools-9.6.1-1378637, downloaded) the shared folders show up fine and all seems well.

I use BBEdit (10.5.5) to edit my files and noticed I get strange errors from the guest Ubuntu, inspecting the files in BBEdit shows my exact changes, but inspecting them on the guest shows files completely mangled up. When I change the file using vi the file changes are synchronized properly.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open a new file using BBEdit (or TextWrangler) and type: abcdef

- save the file

- inspect the file on the guest, it contains: abcdef

- now edit the file in BBEdit and remove the 'cd' (leaving you with 'abef')

- save the file

- inspect the file on the guest, it contains: abcd

- unmount the shared folder

- remount the shared folder

- inspect the file on the guest, it contains: abef

What happens (consistently) is that files which 'grow' (have more characters after the save), get synced properly. But when files 'shrink' (have less characters af save) the amount of removed characters are chopped off the end of the file.

Does anyone else experience this behavior?
