VMware Fusion (6.0.2) with Windows 8.1 Pro (latest version) - upgraded to 8.1 accidently now extremely slow

I'm assuming that a lot of people here use this for Window's MS Word/Excel because how rudimentary Mac's MS Office is that it's unusable.

The Windows 8.1 OS and office now runs significantly slower than 8.0.

Fusion 6.0 - 6.0.2 worked great with my Windows 8.0 (Pro) but then, like an idiot, I upgraded to 8.1 (Pro) like an idiot without researching if it was worth it...

I was also forced into installing the McAfee virus scanner (the one that VM offers through its Fusion) because I wanted to remote desktop to a corporate PC.  I know there is a native Mac-based Windows remote desktop application but the corporate firewalls and network settings require a windows connection. Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Is anyone else experience similar performance issues with Windows 8.1?

How much of my diminished Windows and overall Mac performance is attributed to McAfee? and how much is attributed to Windows 8.1 Pro?

- What are the ancillary and non-vital operations/programs that I can permanently disable in Windows 8.1 to improve its operations? (I just disabled Windows Store)

- What are the optimal VMWare setting on?

- Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I am running a Macbook Pro on OS X 10.9.2 (the latest version): 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 255 GB Flash HD, 8 GB @ 1600 MHz DDR3 Flash RAM.  I use my Mac with 3 monitors (2 external 23' monitors with Thunderbolt to VGA adapters).
