I use both Quicken and Quickbooks as financial software. I reecently upgraged both to the latest 2011/2012 versions. I loaded Quicken into Windows 7 Operating in a virtual environment on my MACBook Pro via VM Fusion 4. The Quicken software seems to be working fine, though I have had some quirks to work through.
On the other hand, last evening I loaded the new Quickbooks software according to the manual of instructions and I also used some tech support from Intuit to make sure the system was set up properly. I was able to restore a Quickbooks Company file and update it to the 2012 version. Today, when I restarted Quickbooks I got a start screen message that there is "No Company Open" However the Company File is clearly indicated in the window that allows me to select a previously open file. When I tried to open that file with "open" or the "open/restore" button, however, I repeatedly received an error message from the software: error message-6176,0, which states that it cannot find the file on a remote server.
I then received a message indicating there was an update for the 2012 software. I downloaded that and the first time after doing that, I was able to open my company file.
Does anyone have experience with this type of error indicating that QB cannot find a company file to open and with controlling where the compnay files are saved by Quickbooks? I am lookiung for a reliable way to work around this issue with Quickbooks. It appears from the Intuit site that there are several errors that can occur in the opening process that relate to opening a company file on another computer. As of my interaction with them today, Intuit does not seem terribly interested in helping users who operate in a virtual environment, so it seems like those who do are on their own as far as Intuit is concerned. Thus I would appreciate learning what others have experienced in circumstances such I now find myself.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there.
