Fusion 6 and Windows 8.1 Slowing to a halt regularly

Hi guys, can you please help?

I have a Windows 8.1 VM configured with 4Gb RAM and 2 CPUs, 60Gb HD (scsi) configured as separate files

Using shared files as I need to access the dropbox folder and a few others on OS X

I am using OS X 10.9.3 on a Macbook Air with 512Gb SDRAM hard drive, i7 2.0Ghz CPU

I'll use Outlook, Project, Excel and Word in the virtual machine most of the time and have all three open at the same time in a windowed environment (don't bother with unity too often)

I just find the hosted environment grinds to a halt... CPU is always high as a combination of those apps above and it just seems unable to cope.

Hosting OS is absolutely fine and whizzing along, Windows virtual host literally hung with CPU at 100%

Fusion is telling me not to allocate a third CPU to the machine as it only leaves one left for the host system and that could cause problems.

What's going on? I thought this should be a fine combination and certainly don't expect the mac to be underpowered for this.

Any thoughts?
