I installed (really upgraded) Fusion 7.0 without any issues. I upgraded my VMs (all Windows 8.1 VMs) to latest hardware version, as well as I upgraded to the latest VMware tools inside the VMs. I started my VM archive process by first running "Clean Up Virtual Machine" in the VM settings (general tab), The "Clean Up Virtual Machine" reported the "used" space correctly and seemly reduced the host VM footprint correctly. When I went to archive the VM, in the Mac Finder the VM size is inflated by 25%. Example:
- Windows is reporting the used disk space as 19.2 GB.
- "Clean Up Virtual Machine" reporting 17.8 GB used.
- After Clean Up, in the Finder the VM size is 25.6 GB
Under Fusion 6.04, using the same set of VMs and version of the host OS, this worked without issue - meaning the size reported by Windows and the "cleaned up" size in the Mac Finder were nearly identical. In the example above the Windows reported size and the Finder size were always within 1% or less. Given my workflow, this additional "extra" disk space used impacts the time it takes to rollback VMs I use for testing. VMware, please correct!
