VMware Fusion is not able to determine the type of server

I just upgraded to Fusion 7 "Professional" in order to use the remote host feature.  However, when I try to connect to either of our vcenter hosts (one production, one dev) or any of our dozens of ESX hosts, I always get the following message:

VMware Fusion is not able to determine the type of server "<host>"

I can successfully connect to the vcenter hosts in question using the web client (which sucks) or with vsphere client running inside a windows 7 vm on the same fusion instance.   It seems like this feature just doesn't work at all?  Or am I doing something wrong?

I also can't figure out how to submit a real support case.  My copy of fusion was provided by my employer so doesn't show up in my "license list" in the "support" section, so I can't progress any further.  I suppose I'm expected to relay the support request through my company's IT department?  That sounds like as much fun and reliable as a game of "telephone" in Kindergarten!

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.
