Interesting problem I had. When Fusion 7 was released I got a pop up notifying me that version 7 was available when I attempted to start my virtual machine. Up to this point everything worked great. I chose the option to skip for now and that is when the problems began.
Immediately there was a problem with Unity Mode failing. I tried everything I could think of including re-installing the VMware tools and nothing worked. I gave up and purchased version 7 and installed..... Same problem. I checked everywhere for a resolution and nothing. It was not until I read the release notes for version 7 pro that I found out about the problems with the 27" cinema displays and how "Use full resolution for retina display" is turned on and this could create a problem.
I unchecked the box and now my virtual machine works great.
Why did this happen to begin with? Why do I feel like I got the old bait and switch pulled on me when version 7 came out. Why is "use full resolution for retina display" not turned off by default when this is a known issue.
As a long time user of VMware Fusion I am really disappointed! I can only hope that this post helps someone else who will undoubtedly have this same issue.
