I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) - with a 2.7 GHz Core i7 processor. I believe this processor has 4 actual cores, with hyperthreading, to make it "8" cores.
I would like to run a single Windows virtual machine as fast as possible with the latest version of VMWare Fusion. How many cores should I allocate to it? I use Visual Studio in the VM, so more cores = better, but I don't want to overload VMWare or OSX.
I tried 3 cores, but when I was compiling (read: using 100% of my processors in the VM), OSX was reporting my processor cores weren't all maxed out, like I would expect.
Now I've got it set to 6 cores, and OSX does show higher CPU usage when I'm compiling in my VM, but I think that's too many cores? And I don't want Fusion to "fake" cores, which is slower, etc...
Advice would be much appreciated!
