Fusion 4 and 5 both cause my external keyboard to become unresponsive after waking computer

Hi,

I have had an issue running Fusion 4.x and Fusion 5.0.2 running OS X 10.8.2 on my MacBook Air 11" i7. The VMware tools is up to date and running without issues on the Windows host.

When I have Fusion (Win XP SP3) open and plug in an external keyboard, the keyboard doesn't work at all on OS X or the VM host. However, if I'm using the keyboard on OS X and have it plugged in BEFORE opening Fusion, it works properly in both OS X and Fusion.

The biggest issue is that if I let my computer sleep or unplug the keyboard for any reason (like to move the computer), when I wake up the computer or reconnect the keyboard the external keyboard fails to work. The built in keyboard does not have issues.

The external keyboard is an extended Apple aluminum USB keyboard, but for whatever reason it doesn't show up in the list of USB devices to disconnect it from the VM environment when this problem is happening. I also don't see it in the OS X USB tree in System Profiler -- but perhaps I don't know how to look on that.

If I quit VMware entirely, the keyboard immediately starts working again. However, if i just shut down XP and leave it on the "play button" screen in Fusion, my keyboard continues to be non-responsive.

When this problem is occuring, nothing on the keyboard works -- pressing CAPS LOCK for instance does not light up the indicator.

Unplugging and replugging the keyboard does not help. Plugging it directly into the computer or into different USB hubs also does not help.

Any ideas?

Thank you!
