I have been using Fusion 5.0 for a few years to create a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine on my MacBook Pro and things have generally gone pretty well. Since I only use the virtual machine to run a couple of legacy programs and since those programs do not run on any Windows OS after XP, I have had no incentive to upgrade anything. Unfortunately a week ago, the virtual machine crashed in flames and I have been unable to rescue it. I was not even able to reinstall Fusion 5 over the existing files so eventually I erased all of the Fusion files, following the instructions elsewheres in the knowledge base. In the process of so doing, I discovered a folder entitled "Incompatible Software" which indicated that the version of Fusion I was using was incompatible with the version of Mac OS I was running. However, that incompatibliity was found in February 2013 so I am guessing it was not the proximate cause of the crash.
Anyway, my question is should I be using Fusion 5 or 6 to host my Windows XP SP3 virtual machine on Mac OS 10.9.4? I still need the legacy programs so I cannot use any later version of Windows.
TIA
