Virtual Hard Disk Setting (SCSI or SATA)?

I have been trialing VMware Fusion 7 as i plan to make the change from parallels.  I had problems activating my copy Windows 7, it would not activate, even though my activation key was valid, I also noticed some Windows updates would always fail.  This was always with the default (SCSI) Hard drive settings that were set by the software itself.

I noticed when Parallels 10 makes a new image it uses SATA, so in my troubleshooting i then tried to create a VMware Fusion 7 image with a SATA virtual controller instead and windows activated just fine.

Is this a known issue?

I am stumped.  Thanks.
