Good morning all
As a result of an unwelcome failure of one of my oldest macs - which is regrettably running some required software that is incompatible with newer Mac OS iterations - I have researched how to virtualise a fresh installation of SL, and discovered that one needs SL Server to do this, which I had a full retail copy of (never used).
Following some great information on here I successfully made and booted a new Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Server VM, and I have managed to install the old software and import all the ancillary files from my backup - that's the great news.
Unfortunately I have one small area which is a problem. When I go to Browse, I can see every other mac on my network, but I can't see any of my PC clients or Servers. If I type the IP syntax myself using either SMB or AFP I get the standard Apple error about connection failed. I am unable to browse the internet either. I have made Win 7, Win 8 VM's before and just selected to inherit network settings and all has worked, so I guess it must be something specific to SL Server.
Worse case scenario I can just use a shared folder to bridge across to my host Mavericks mac, but I'd rather be able to browse and mount the shares on my network servers and NAS devices.
I'm sure this is probably some little service I forgot to enable on SL Server (never used it before) - could anyone help?
Many thanks
S
