VM loses access to internet after about 30 seconds of working connection

When I start up Windows in my VM, the network adapter initializes and works for about 30 seconds and then loses internet access.  If I disconnect and reconnect the network adapter through the Fusion hardware settings, the network adapter re-initializes and regains access to the internet... for about 30 seconds.

IPCONFIG shows that the adapter has the correct ip address assigned.  Pings to 127.0.0.1, the assigned ip for the VM, and for the host ip address all succeed.  Pings to the router fails (destination host unreachable).   If I change the settings on the VM network adapter to "Share with my Mac", it gets a stable, lasting connection to the internet.  But it gets an ip address in a different subnet and is unable to access my LAN, which is required.

This VM has had connectivity issues in the past where I would need to disconnect/reconnect the network adapter occasionally.  But within that last few weeks, the frequency has increased and now it only works for a few seconds at a time.  It feels like an hardware failure, but this is a virtual adapter.  And the host has no networking problems.

I really only use this one VM, but I have another plain vanilla windows 7 VM from a test project last summer.  I opened it and checked its network functionality.  It has the exact same problems as my main VM which indicates that it is not a windows issue (ie updates), but something in Fusion, or with the Mac.   I've re-installed VM Tools, hoping that there might be a fix in there, but it did not help.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Here is my configuration....

Host:

- Mac Pro

- Mavericks (10.9.5) fully updated

- Fusion 6.0.5

- Wired ethernet connection

- All network functions work normally

Guest:

- Windows 7 ultimate

- VM tools installed (and reinstalled)

- Bridged mode

Network:

- Sonicwall router/firewall

- DHCP with reserved ip addresses for both devices
