Windows 10 will not synchronize the time with Fusion 10.1.1 after suspension

I have seen this discussion on the support forum and I am having the same issue.  Most but not all of the time, the time on my Windows 10 image remains on the same time as when my image was suspended causing all sorts of headaches.

Mouse Pointer is Offset

I just got VMWare Fusion today and attempted to install a Debian 9 image with Cinnamon on it. My host OS is OS X High Sierra.

My mouse cursor is offset from its actual position quite a bit. I've seen this same issue in a large number of other threads when I googled it, but everyone says that their problems are resolved by switching to "Always optimize the mouse for games". When I enable this setting, besides making my mouse movement strange, it makes the cursor vanish whenever I move it to another monitor. Whichever monitor I was interacting with when I set "Always optimize the mouse for games" will have a cursor that functions correctly, but moving it to either of my other monitors makes it invisible. It still works, it just doesn't display a mouse anymore.

When I first tried setting up the VM, VMware Tools was busted, so I used this: GitHub - rasa/vmware-tools-patches: Patch and build VMware tools automatically

That fixed the problem and VMware could actually detect the tools, but my mouse is still not properly usable.

Any ideas on what to try? Let me know if any additional information would be useful.

Fusion 7.1 on MAC with MAC OS 10.13.3 Reboots MAC OS on "Resume" HELP with UPGRADE

I have a MacBook with MAC OS 10.13.3.  We run a non-profit and had Quicken open in a Virtual Machine (Windows 8) under Fusion 7.1.  When I try to restart the virtual machine the MAC OS reboots.  From what I can glean from my research Fusion 7 is not compatible with MAC OS 10.13.3.

I also see from my research that I risk corrupting my virtual system if I have not properly shut it down.  I am unable to shutdown the virtual machine as I am unable to get it started.

So.... the question is how can I resolve the issue of the virtual machine being open (not shut down) and the need for an upgrade?

Please help,

I just got a new MacBook, installed VMWare fusion 10, and windows 7, ran all updates and everything runs fine.

Trying to use the windows 10 upgrade assistant to upgrade to 10, and I get the following message:

"The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-|1-1-1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I have tried the following:

Uninstall and reinstall assistant

Uninstall and reinstall VMware tools

Ran CCleaner registry check, fixed a few issues, still nothing.

DNS Settings

Hi All.

I'm configuring a private network in my VMware Fusion 8 to build a vSphere Lab, but I'd like to edit DNS settings of this network (add, create, edit or remove hostnames), because my MAC can reach VM by IP address but cannot resolve VM hostnames.

PS: I'm using a Windows 2016 VM as a DNS Server for my Private Network.

Could you help me?

Best Regards.

Instructions for fixing file-saving issue to a shared folder after Fall 2017 Update for Windows (Fusion for macOS)

$

This is the step-by-step fix for people unable to save files to a shared folder on the macOS version of VMware Fusion (8.5.x or above).

The issue occurs after installing the Fall 2017 Update for Windows 10. If you have the Home edition, it will automatically download itself and then send you reminders to install it every time you launch Windows.

1. Download VMware Tools 10.2

1A. Follow this link: https://packages.vmware.com/tools/releases/10.2.0/windows/VMware-tools-windows-10.2.0-7253323.iso.

1B. Save the ISO file on your macOS desktop.

2. Uninstall VMware Tools 10.1.x

2A. Go to the Start menu in Windows and open up Control Panel.

2B. Go to "Uninstall a program" under Programs and Features.

2C. Look for VMware Tools in the list; it should be near the bottom.

2D. If the version number (last column) is 10.1.x or earlier, click on VMware Tools and then on "Uninstall" in the top menu.

2E. After it's finished uninstalling, it will ask you if you want to restart; click "Yes".

3. Install VMware Tools 10.2

3A. After your Windows machine has started up, click on the "Virtual Machine" menu of VMware Fusion, and then on "Settings".

3B. Under "Removable Devices", click on "CD/DVD".

3C. Click on the "Connect CD/DVD Drive" checkbox.

3D. In the dropdown menu, choose "Select a disc or disc image..." and then browse to the ISO file on your macOS desktop.

3E. A notification will appear on your Windows machine ("DVD Drive (D:) VMware Tools -- Select what happens with this disc"); double-click on it.

3F. Click on "Run setup64.exe" from the menu that appears.

3G. Click on "Yes" to allow the app to make changes to your device.

3H. Click on "Next" when the installation wizard appears.

3I. Select "Typical" for the type of installation.

3J. After it's finished installing, it will ask you if you want to restart; click "Yes".

The issue should be resolved after the virtual machine has restarted. You can test it by opening a Microsoft Office file (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and then saving a copy to a shared folder.

DirectX 10 not supported in Vmware Fusion 10.1.0

Hello,

I am trying to run Dragon Age Inquisition and get the error that Vmware SVGA 3D doesn't support DirectX 10. I checked the SVGA 3D and it says it does support DirectX 10. There was a similar discussion opened for 2016 for Fusion 8.5. It sounded like this issue was resolved then.

I am on a Win 10 VM, Sierra host, Fusion 10.1, 2017 MBP with:

Radeon Pro 555 2048 MB

Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Display settings say 3D acceleration is active and supports DirectX 10.

I am attaching the complete dxdiag report.

Any help on this would be wonderful.

Thanks

my business apps server is a NEE Dell PC running W10home. My Dental Stephen Fassman DMDPC, 35 Eat 35t St, Ew York, Y 10016 co had to do a new install if all server and network apps on the dell, and new network cluent app on my iMac running 19.11, Fusion 7.1 Pro, win pro. They set the Dell to a static IP address. It worked fine the day of installation.

The next day the client iMac could not connect to the static up of the Dell server. Dental co support tried to ping the iMacs ip and the virtual Win7 ip (which I told them was incorrect). No connection. They tried to ping the Dell from the virtual Win7 and No Connection.

the Server app has been flawlessly run on a Dell pc running vista in 2009, and then on a Mac Mini running win7 Pro natively in boot Csmp since 2014, and all were networked by wire and by wireless flawlessly. The BC partition self destructed from a Win 7 update that caused it to boot to a black screen. recoverd all my business apps and X-ray, bought the new Dell, and it networked perfectly for 1 day! Dental app suppOrr then ran fir the hills, blaming the Fusion setup on the iMac. Help! Help! Help!

Will Fusion 10 run on a mid-2010 iMac

Hi everyone,

I just purchased Fusion 10 but didn't realize that the requirements were for a mid-2011 or newer iMac. Mine is a mid-2010 with a 2,93 Ghz i7 processor and 32 GB RAM.. I would think that there is enough horsepower to run the current version. Would anyone know if I can actually install and run this version or if the hardware requirement is "cast in stone"?

Anyway I can get hot-add working again?

Installation of VMWare Fusion Pro 8 (downgraded 10 license) on MacBookPro (13-inch mid 2010)

So I need to run VMWare on a MacBook Pro 13-inch mid 2010. VMWare Fusion Pro 10 doesn't support this hardware. VMWare sales support person instructed me to purchase 10, install, and then use downgraded license. Sounded simple enough. I purchased, download, and attempted to install. The installer is smart enough to know version 10 Pro is not supported on my hardware so it quits. Suggesions?

Audio device thunderbolt connected to VMWARE Fusion 13

Hi everyone!

I am a developper and musician running an OSX Macbook pro with a Win 10 VM at my studio.

I have an external audio card (Apollo Twin) using Thunderbolt 2. I would like to access it inside the Win 10 VM (like when I plug an USB piano and I can redirect it to the Win 10 VM).

Note: I don't want to specifically use it as the "main audio device" but I want to access it and configure it inside my music software (which is Fruity Loops 12)

Any help gratefully received!

SETTING SERIAL NUMBER OF MACHINE

I am using VMware Fusion 10.1.1 for Mac. I am interested in using VMware to test virtual machines so I can quickly test an imaging process. I would like to change the serial number and the model identifier of a virtual machine, because scripts that will run on the system will be dependent on that information as they run.

How would I change the serial number and model identifier of a VMware Fusion 10.1.1?

Thanks very much.

Unable to create the installation medium - Sierra Host, High Sierra Guest

$

Just updated to Fusion 10.0.1 and I'm trying to setup a High Sierra Guest on my Sierra machine. On installation I get an error stating that it's "Unable to create the installation medium".

I recall seeing something similar with Fusion 8 and the Sierra developer previews, but as High Sierra is apparently supported as I guest I'm surprised that I'm getting this error.

How do you install a High Sierra Guest, before I installed a Sierra Guest and then upgraded but surely that should no longer be necessary.

VMware Tools doe not see that it is updated?

I have a collection of Mac OS X guests.  I am starting them for the first time in Fusion 10.1.1.  For Mac OS 10.11 and newer the update goes as expected and Fusion see the tools as up to date. For Mac OS 10.10 and less Fusion does not see the update it made and still shows the "Update VMware Tools" menu option.  Is Fusion 10.1.1 not installing the right version of tools in the older Mac OS, or is Fusion installing the right version of tools but looking for a newer version anyway?

Cannot get attributes of file on virtual machine (cancelling the file copy operation)

VMWare Fusion 8.1.1

El Capitan Host

Windows 10 Pro x64 Guest (Ver 1709)

Periodically, since updating the WIn 10 Guest to 1709, I get the "Cannot get attributes of file on virtual machine (cancelling the file copy operation)" error bubble appearing on my desktop.

I am not copying any files at the time of this error?

Thoughts?

Thx

Fusion 10.1.1, W7, Sierra, NAT: Ghost machine, "a new device has connected", "duplicate IP address detected"

$

When I boot my Win7 VM on my Mac, ESET Internet Security (running on the Win7 VM) says "A new device has connected to the network" (huh?), and "a device tried to use a duplicate IP address and was blocked". ESET accuses the "new device" of broadcasting malicious traffic.

When I use ESET to look at the LAN (again, from the Win7 VM's point of view) it shows (all on the locally NAT'ed IP4 address segment) the VMWare host machine, the virtual NATing router, the VM, and a 'ghost machine' (my name - has a yellow circle with an exclamation point) - a machine that shouldn't be connected, and I'd theorize CAN'T be connected, because this NAT is happening inside my Mac - there's noplace to plug in, no WAP to access.

The ghost machine has a MAC address that has the VMWare autogenerated MAC prefix 00-50-56, and the ESET display shows the machine is surrounded by ghost machines it hasn't seen in a while, all with the same autogenerated MAC prefix, and on this NAT'ed subnet.

ESET.png

Any idea where this machine comes from, and what I can do to shut it off?

Prior versions of VMWare Fusion (I last used 8) didn't do this.

Shrink an APFS virtual disk

I'm running VMware Fusion 10.1.1 on High Sierra.

I have a High Sierra guest and I'd like to shrink the virtual disk to reclaim space.

With Sierra (and older) guests, I would execute the following command inside the guest to shrink the disk:

     sudo /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Tools/vmware-tools-cli disk shrink /

But when I run that command inside the High Sierra guest (APFS virtual disk), I get the following error:

    Partition / is not shrinkable

What command should be used to shrink an APFS disk?

Thank you.

How can I convert a live CD to a regular VM?

I checked the vmnet-* commands for options to create a datastore, but couldn't find any. I guess I have to convert the ISO to VMDK and make a custom VM from that?
