Problems w. 'upgrade' on WIN7 VM(5) to VM6

I'm on a newer iMac, i5, 8GB of RAM, OS X 10.8.4. Currently running a trial version of Fusion 6 Pro, using a WIN7 VM that was previously working just fine on the same computer under VM 5.0.3 for several months now.

Resource settings are 2GB RAM, 2 Processors. In advanced settings, virtualization engine is set to Intel VT-x, Troubleshooting is set to none, and hard disk buffering is off (this latter was following some internet advice on sluggish VM performance, but whether HD Buffer is on or off, the following problem still applies). The only application running is Trados Studio 2011, a software package used for translations.

In all fairness, Trados can be a bit 'gluey' to work with at the best of times, but ever since upgrading the VM to 6.0, the application and Windows will run just fine for a while, hours even, and then gradually seem to "choke-up", becoming extremely sluggish and unresponsive. If I leave the VM on overnight, not much can be done with it in the morning. Note that the app or the VM are not crashing, they are still responding, it just takes forever to do anything in the app or in Windows (e.g. run Explorer). Shutting down (which also takes a looooong time), and then firing the machine up again resolves the problem. Oh, and on the Mac side everything is running normally while the VM is in this state.

I did not experience this behavior under Fusion 5.0.3., and I wonder whether it has anything to do with my advanced settings, or if the VM somehow became corrupted during 'upgrade'. I still have the original VM backed up. I'd like to avoid having to create a new, native VM under 6.0. Any ideas on settings I could tweak in VMware, OS X or Windows to get this to run more smoothly? Thanks in advance!
