One VM won't start because of "Internal error"

I was installing Microsoft Security Essentials on a guest Windows 7. I minimized the VM and did some web browsing with FireFox on the host machine. When I returned to the VM it was a black screen and gave an error message about disk inconsistencies. I had to force quit VMware Fusion. Now when I try to start the virtual machine it says "internal error". Other virtual machines are able to run so it doesn't seem to be a problem with VMware Fusion. I had taken a snapshot while it was working. Is there any way I can salvage the virtual machine or fix the error?

The .vmwarevm file is inside an encrypted volume. The host OS is OS X 10.9.3 and host is Windows 7 64bit.
