I'm running into a situation that I can't seem to resolve.
First, the error: "No Boot Camp Volumes Found. VMware Fusion could not find any Boot Camp volumes on this Mac."
Now my variables:
- VMware Fusion Version 6.0.3 (1747349)
- Mac OS X 10.9.2
- MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 Retina (I think this is a 2013 model)
- I can provide more data if need for the variables.
I work in an imaging environment and it's a must. I don't have the time/resources to build up all the OSes, for all the machines I have, from scratch.
I have an MDT 2013 server environment for my Windows deployment. I use VMware Workstation to create all my various Windows builds.
I have a handful of users that truly utilize a Windows Boot Camp partition along side their Mac OS X install. Most of these users like to run both OSes simultaneously and we utilize VMware Fusion for that. Traditionally I'd image the Mac and then build up the Windows 7 Boot Camp partition from scratch. It's a long tedious process.
Two weeks ago I tried something new. I'll try to list out the process:
- Image a Windows machine utilizing MDT (pretty standard and never any issues)
- Pull that hard drive and connect it, via USB, to my target Mac machine (in this case a MacBook Pro Retina)
- At this stage I'll take one of two different paths (and I've tested each several times, but always with a failure)
- I will create a full blown Boot Camp partition utilizing Boot Camp Assistant (this means the entire process all the way to installing Windows 7 from DVD/USB), or
- I manually create a Fat32 partition to manually install Windows 7 on via Disk Utility.
- Next, I utilize Winclone Pros' "Restore To Volume..." function. (Basically copies the Windows 7 USB connected Hard Drive to the target Boot Camp partition on the Mac)
- This always works successfully. I can always boot the Mac into Windows without issues. Update it. Install drivers. The works.
- Now, I boot back into Mac and I start VMware Fusion 6. I want to utilize the Boot Camp partition in VMware Fusion, so I go -> File -> More options... -> Install from Boot Camp
- And at this point it completely fails with the message: "No Boot Camp Volumes Found. VMware Fusion could not find any Boot Camp volumes on this Mac."
If I build the entire scenario from scratch, meaning no imaging at all, then VMware Fusion doesn't have this issue with Boot Camp Volumes. But, the moment I image my Windows 7 build onto the partition (which completely works), VMware Fusion no longer finds a Boot Camp partition.
I've Googled and haven't found a whole lot of info on this. What little I found didn't help (meaning I'm not running any sort of NTS third party software on these Mac Builds).
I'm hoping for some insight/guidance on this issue... even if it's a really silly error on my part.
I can provide deeper detail if need to assist with troubleshooting.
Thanks!
