VMWare 6 won't upgrade my vm's

I just installed VMW 6 in a new Yosemite partition. At first I tried to import the vm's I had using VMW5 in SL by pointing VMW to the old files. But all were grayed out.

So I copied a vmwarevm file from my old Snow Leopard partition on the same disk to the new partition. I clicked the file and VMW6 opened a window asking if I wanted to upgrade it. I responded yes. But now it keeps failing due to a permissions issue. All the vm's were shutdown.

How can I use my old vm's in VMW6?
