Best way to move and upgrade windows xp vm to new macbook pro.

I have a 2008 MBPro running OS X 10.9.4 with VMfusion 6.0.3. My vm is windows xp. I have purchased a new MBPro and want to use a Time Machine backup to migrate my old MBPro and all of its files to the new MPPro. Currently my Time Machine Backups have been backing up everything on the 2008 MBP including the Virtual Machine folder. What is the best/easiest way to move all of my content from the 2008 MBP AND install a new version of Windows 7 in VMfusion in the new MBP and move the contents of the old vm to the new vm?

I have considered just using the Time Machine backup and moving everything over then doing the Windows conversion. (Is is possible to just install a second vm of Windows 7 and then try to move the files from the xp vm to the win7 vm? Or I hope you do not have to do a xp to win7 upgrade to the vm?)

I also considered doing a new TM backup, excluding the VM folder. Then on the new MBP install fusion 7.0 and put Win 7 on it and copy the files from the old MBP fusion to the new one with a flash drive. I don't have a lot of content on the windows xp vm. Basically just one piece of software that I have to have that only runs on windows and explorer.

Thanks.
