VMware Fusion OS X Virtual Machine Unable to VPN with Bridge Networking

$

I am running OS X 10.10.3 on my host and VMWare Fusion I have a virtual OS X 10.10.3 guest.  When I use Bridged Networking (I need to do it this way because I have two different networks) VPN does not work in the virtual mac...it works fine in the host.  If I changed to "Share with my Mac" on the guest's network connection, it does work (though I cant use this network normally).

I have multiple windows machines using bridged networking that use this same network that fails on OSX above.  I would REALLY like to move away from Windows completely.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

VMWare Fusion 7 error with OSX Guest

Hi,

I'm having issues with "vmrun runProgramInGuest" command line tool in VMWare Fusion 7.1.1

My command looks like this:

vmrun -gu user -gp password runprogramInGuest "/Users/build/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Mac OS X 64-bit.vmwarevm/Mac OS X 64-bit.vmx" -interactive /path/to/my/script.sh

It used to work, but now results in:

Error: Authentication failure or insufficient permissions in guest operating system

My host is running OSX 10.9 with all the latest patches, I'm having this trouble with guests running OSX 10.10 and 10.9 + Security Update 2015-004 1.0.  10.9 systems NOT running this security update do not have this problem.

I've reproduced with both VMWare Fusion 5.0.5 and 7.  I tried reinstalling OSX on my host, I've updated to the latest VMWare Tools, the only resolution I've been able to find is this one: VMware KB:     VixVM_LoginInGuest failure: Authentication failure or insufficient permissions in guest operating system …but this article simply doesn't apply to VMWare Fusion the file "/etc/pam.d/vmware-guestd" doesn't even exist on my guests.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious.

HD Graphics Encoding via GPU

Hello

I am currently using a Macbook Pro with Intel HD graphics 6100

Migrating from Windows to Mac - there are still some bits of software that I like to use - namely using the Intel HD graphics for Encoding - QuickSync. Its good and its fast. On a proper windows machine within certain encoding software you are able to select the GPU as the encoding engine and use the inbuilt feature of this, windows calls it QuickSync and it uses the GPU to do all the encoding calculations instead of the CPU. This makes it fast - I mean really fast.

However, when running windows from vmware the graphics device is not being listed as the Mac actually graphics card - instead it is being listed as something else. So when you load the software that normally has access to the GPU on a dedicated windows machine, the version running through VMware does not detect it?

Is there any way of getting this to work.

Software like - Handbrake, VSO Video Converter and DVDFab for example. All allow encoding through the GPU.

Host OS rebooting every night

I believe that some interaction with the host OS and the VMware is causing the host OS to reboot everynight, and as a result the VMware OS goes through a hard reboot.

I am running OSX 10.9.5 on a MacBook Air with VMware fusion 7.1.1. I am running Windows 7 enterprise.

I have verified that the power management settings in windows 7. They are to never turn off the display and never put the computer to sleep.

In OSX the system will sleep after 15 minutes on both the Power Adapter and the Battery.

I do not have a problem with VM or the host system after waking the host system up from sleep. However, at some point over night the host system will reboot with a hard reboot.

When I close VMware it does not reboot over night.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Fusion 7.1.1 says the hard VM stored on is almost full - It's not

Hi all,

Whenever I try to run my Ubuntu 14.4 VM, after about 10 minutes, I receive the error "disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full" and the VM gets paused. This is not true since the 2TB WD Black drive that the VMs are on has 1.5TB available. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • VM is 200GB (~ 30GB used) with 4GB RAM
  • All VMs are stored on a separate internal SATA HDD
  • HOST: Mac Pro (mid 2010) with 3 hard drives (1TB OS, 3TB VMs, 3TB Time Machine) and 48GB RAM
  • Other VMs seem to work fine

I recently had to restore my Mac to a new hard drive from a Time Machine backup as my OS drive had failed. Since my VMs are stored on a separate HDD, I plugged it into a USB 3.0 dock and worked off my MacBook Pro 13" retina for a short while  while my Mac Pro Restored. Once the Mac Pro was ready, I shut down my VM and put the HDD back into the Mac Pro. Now every time I run the VM, I have the problem above. The rest of the Mac Pro seems absolutely fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Fusion 7.1.1 - Win 7 black screen after update, but still works

After the last fusion update, my Win 7 VM shows a black screen. The mouse is still visible on screen, and everything is working and displaying from the preview window in the library. I've disabled the accelerated graphics and still nothing, as well as updated my vmware tools. When I pause the vm, I get the screen to display, but starting up again, it goes black again, and it has been rebooted several times.

any thoughts? I have a bunch of stuff I need to get off of it in the possibility that I need to wipe out and start over.

Thanks!

Why does the drag and drop context menu always popup when dragging files between windows explorer instances ?

I have fusion 7.1.1 on an iMac 27 inch retina. 32GB ram of which 6GB assigned to Fusion and 2 cores. Windows 7 Home Premium installed. Mostly working fine but a few funnies. First and foremost: Whenever I drag and drop between instances of windows explorer, I get the little pop-up context menu offering me Copy Here / Move Here etc.  etc. I have never known Windows to ask me what I want to do when I drag stuff - why is this happening ? I have scoured the net for info on this and found nothing. Please note that this is NOT associated with the Start Menu (For which I found a zillion solutions to whatever that problem is). Also, It is NOT to do with stopping drag & drop and Context menus: yes, I know how to do that but that is NOT what I'm asking to get rid of. This may not be related but I have also had to set my Internet Properties / Explorer settings / Launching-applications-and-unsafe-files to "Enable" to prevent every shortcut I create causing a "Do you want to run this ... ?" message every time I click on them. Doing this has caused WIndows 7 to turn into a finger-wagging safety-nanny glaring at me over its demi-lune spectacles.

Fusion 7.1.1 on OS X Yosemite - .lck folders preventing VM from starting

$

Recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite and Fusion 7.1.1.  Ever since the upgrade, having issues with being unable to start up virtual machines.  After initial install, the VM's worked without issue and seemed to shutdown fine.  Fusion seems to quit without issue.  Logging back in and restarting Fusion then results in the VM hanging during startup, requiring a Force Quit of Fusion.  Inspection of the VM package shows a .lck folder present.  After deleting the .lck folder and restarting OS X, am able to start Fusion and use the VM until the next shutdown sequence.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fusion, and creating brand new VM's, with same result.

At a loss as to why .lck folders are persisting after what appears to be a successful shutdown of the VM and Fusion.  Any thoughts?  I'll attach the output of the "collect support information" for review if anyone can help out.

Internal SATA drive is shown as External on 10.9

I created a new VM for 10.9 using Fusion 7.1.1 and chose all the defaults during setup.  By default, the system drive is SATA.  After completion, I opened Disk Utility.  Looking at the info for the system drive, the drive is listed with a Connection Type "External".  In comparison, if I follow the same steps, but instead chose to have the drive be SCSI, the device is listed as being "Internal".  Is this to be expected for SATA drives or is this a bug?  If this is not a bug, is there any way to make the drive "Internal" during the VM creation process or after VM creation?

Using two of three monitors for the VM

Hey y'all,

I've got a MBP and I'm running another two monitors along with the built in display.  I know how to make it use all three monitors for multiple display, but I'm wondering if there is a way to make two of the monitors be for the VM, and leave one for my mac.  I tried just disabling the third display in the Windows 7 settings, but that just ends up mirroring it.

Any help is appreciated,

Help needed to recover corrupt virtual disk - No snapshots

$

Hi

Please could somebody help me.

I was running Clean Up Virtual Machine and then I Force Quit Fusion. Now I can't start my VM. I have run vmware_vdiskmanager to try and recover the virtual disk, but I get the following error.

VixDiskLib: Invalid configuration file parameter. Failed to read configuration file.

The virtual disk, '/Users/juan-emil/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7.vmwarevm/Virtual Disk.vmdk', is corrupted and cannot be repaired.

In an attempt to solve the problem I created snapshots to see if I can recover from them, but all I did was to un-associate my fusion with the virtual disk.

What do I do. Please somebody help. I cannot afford to loss this VM. All my work is on it.

False Key repeats on VM Fusion 7.1.1

I have seen the thread about problems on VM Fusion 5.0.3, but I am running VM Fusion 7.1.1 on an iMac running Yosemite 10.10.3 and I have just started getting key repeeeeeeeats. I first experienced it in Sage Instant Accounts, and thought that the problem might be in the Sage application, which I have just upgraded. However, I switched to IE and got the same problem, suggesting that the problem is with VM Fusion. Has anyone else experienced this and / or got a solution?

Thanks

Lots of lag and graphics problems after upgrading to Fusion 7

$

I have a 16GB RAM Retina MacBook Pro.

I recently upgraded to Fusion 7, and have seen much more problems. When I use the Retina Mode, for example, most of the OS becomes choppy, and there is definitely latency present in actions such as moving windows.

Gaming is also a problem. I downloaded DOTA2, for example, and when I tried running the games, the proper textures I believe couldn't be loaded due to graphics problems, and the game screen remained extremely dark.

Is this a common issue, and is VMware working to fix it?

Why has my native windows 7 Pro-64 network to a windows 7 Pro-64 VM has slowed to a crawl and freezes, after the new Arris cable modem was installed?

$

Please appreciate the details, so the complete situation can be visualized:

The office network:

New Mac Mini PC running Win 7Pro 64, (in boot camp), networked to an iMac running the same Win 7 Pro 64, VM, UNDER Fusion 7Pro.

To review: My treatment rooms former dell PC/running vista business/ running the server and network versions of my Dental practice mgmt & X-ray capture apps, had no probs WLAN to the front desk iMac running the same PC client dental network apps under the same vista business, & Fusion 4. The dell slowly fried its power supply .

I could not wait to replace it with a Mac mini/ boot camp/ win7 pro 64 bit, as it has to run natively to capture X-rays. The front desk iMac was also upgraded to os10.10.3/ Fusion 7pro/ and its own matching Win7 pro 64bit. The iMac is wired and WLAN connected to a netgear d600 router and a Time Warner Cable  modem. The modem then failed and was replaced by an arris modem. As the Arris was configured out of the box, the network ran much slower slowed, as compared to the original modem. BUT-  The Vonage 2 line phone system stopped working- no incoming or outgoing voices could be heard after it rang. Then twc remote configured it and the phone now works, but the network iMac slowed to a crawl, and now freezes when accessing the Mac Mini PC dental server to edit or enter data. The Mini perfectly accesses the internet via wifi. It accesses the front desk canon  printer by wifi, and can print share they the iMac that is wired to the printer, as well, BUT, the network connection is a spinning pinwheel. The front desk imac easily finds the Mac Mini PC server on the network. It connects easily by entering the servers IPv4 address SHOULD THAT last value change.  But if data isn't entered in slow motion, the window and app freezes, and has to be force quit by Task Manager!

Cause:

1. I think TWC switched the cable modem from the default- Non Bridged, to Bridged mode. Could this be the cause?

2. The network setting in fusion, on the iMac is auto detect, a setting that always worked with vista and with the new Win7 system, before TWC installed the new arris modem. 3. Switching to NAT does not work at all is there a different setting to use?

3. Does the Netgear Router  have to have a port or pref configured so as not to block the  Server.

4. might in need an Access Point (I have an extra netgear wdr3400) ).

5. Do I need an Extender that plugs into the AC LINE?

I hope this info helps.

PS:(some addtl info:

1. File sharing works fine between the minis -Mac and boot camp sides and between the iMacs- Mac and VM sides and between eother side to or from either of the 2 computers! 2. Also  either office computer and all of my my home macs , (& my iPad, & iPhone), can access each other instantly and flawlessly, with splash top streamer and jump desktop remote apps, as controller or as client!  In fact, the front desk iMac can remote control the mini PC AS IF YOU WERE DIRECTLY ENTERING INFO I TO IT!

SO I think it's either a misconfiguration in the TWC cable modem  &/or some additional pref to config in the router? Thanks so much for your help, (been using VM's since VPC1. & Win95 in a iMac, 1999, DV MODEL! (TWC BLAMES VONAGE FOR NOT OPENING SOME PORTS IN THE TELE MODEM. Vonage blames TWC FOR NOTopeningj ITS PORTS IN THE CABLE MODEM, when they meant the ports on the Netgear.  They have passed the buck for 6 weeks with not even a guess at what to do. VERY FRUSTRATING!  Again, thanks to all!

VMWare Fusion is now telling me my password for Windows 7 is incorrect. How can I access Windows 7 on my iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5?

$

I am running Windows 7 via VMWare Fusion 4. I have always used the same password to access this on my iMac, but from yesterday I am being told my password is incorrect. I know my password is correct because I use the same one for my MacBook Pro and this still works.

I was never prompted to make a password re-set disk when I first used VMWare Fusion so this isn't an option for me.

I am using the smaller wifi keyboard Apple are so fond of sending with the iMac, so I don't have a clear CTRL-Alt-Del option either.

Can any one help me?

Syntax Error when running my VMware Fusion

Im not sure why I am getting the following error:

File "/Users/johjane/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm/Windows XP Professional.vmx" line 63: Syntax error.

This happens when I try to run my Windows XP Professional through VM Ware Fusion. I am using a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo proc. I installed the new version VMWare Fusion 1.1.1-72241, and the error still occurs after update installation.

Also, i tried restarting my computer and problem still persists.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Fusion 6.0.2 and OSx Mavericks 10.9.1 - Sleep Wake failure unless I shutdown or suspend my Win7Pro VM before closing lid

$

0

I recently bought a new macbook pro, tht is up to date with Mavericks 10.9.1

I bout Fusion 6 and migrated my VM from my old macbook that was running Fusion 4.

All seemed to go well.

The VM performs awesomely.

The problem is when I put the Macbook to sleep... I get the 'infamous' Sleep Wake Failure when I wake it up, and the macbook is restarted.

I say infamous, as there are many users of mavericks experiencing this for all sorts of causes.

In my case I singled the cause down to my VMware Fusion 6, running a Win7 Pro machine. If this is still running when I sleep the Macbook then I get the Sleep Wake Failure every time I wake the MacBook. If I shutdown or suspend the VM first, then this does not happen.

Please can this be looked at...

I used to work in this way with my old macbook (OSx Lion, Fusion 4) and never had issues sleeping the macbook and resuming.

Thanks

Simon
