Network problems, can't ping my mac

$

I run Fusion 7.1.1 and an Ubuntu server 14.04 on my imac 10.10.3 for web development.

I have a thunderbolt Promise connected to the mac and mounted this on my ubuntu using smb, everything worked fine.

Then I decided to let my college surf to my ubuntu so I set up a local dns server on a server running the same setup in the office and I changed the network settings in fusion to Autodetect so that my ubuntu got an 10.0.1.x-address, we have an Airport extreme.

Somewhere here I lost connection to my harddrive.

If I ssh to my ubuntu, or any other computer on the network and ping 10.0.1.2 (my imac) I get timeout. I can ping 10.0.1.2 from my mac.

ifconfig -a on my imac gives at the end:

vmnet1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

  ether 00:50:56:c0:00:01

  inet 172.16.20.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 172.16.20.255

vmnet8: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

  ether 00:50:56:c0:00:08

  inet 192.168.36.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.36.255

My guess is that Im not on the right broadcast and that these two are messing something up.

I did follow a tutorial on how to get my ubuntu on the 10.0.1.x-network before realising that I should do it in vmware, so I might have done something there, but I think I reset everything.

There are more things strange with my computer, the Facebook popup is really slow and dropbox sync, indicating that they wait for some timeout before getting on the web?

Unable to bridge airport using DHCP.

Hello,

I have posted on this a few times already because I have simply been unable to use bridge networking over the airport and DHCP. It just won't work, and I don't know what else to do.

Following what I have done:

\- Check DHCP server scopes. In the servers that I get logs, I see OFFERs being made to the VM but this never gets it.

\- Bridged using static IPs work perfect.

\- Removed Parallels, removed Fusion, delete all my VMs from the HDD, delete all other network connections and ports, reboot, install Fusion, install new Guest OSs (Windows XP Pro, 2003 Enterprise, Ubuntu, Red Hat 4.0), installed vmware tools, tried again all four and nothing.

\- When I removed everything I also did a search for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING from Vmware and deleted manually Preference directories under the Library.

\- Focused on Windows Pro, and changed the Nic to an "Intel Pro" by adding the following line to the .vmx file, and installing the correct drivers:

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

\- Tried already 6 different Access Points, from cheap $40 ones to higher end models costing thousands of dollars.

I am simply stomped by this. I don't know what else to do, and if I can post any logs here of whatever I am requested, or who knows. This is the ONLY feature that is stopping me from putting aside my Parallels, because this works perfect under Parallels.

What do I do? Suggestions?

Thank you!

VMWare Fusion Machine runs very slow... used to run fine!

i have been running VMWare Fusion on my dual,

dual core 3ghz xeon intel mac for over a year. it was originally a

parallels image that i converted to vmware using their converter. it

worked great for a long time. i was able to run 3dsmax along with all

my OS X apps, CS3, all that good stuff. i have 4 gigs of ram.

over the last few months, the vmware image began to run VERY slow, windows

and menus are very laggy and slow and redraw on maximizing and

minimizing is very poor. i thought maybe it was the stability of that

particular image so i built a new one from scratch in fusion using xp

disks. even with the clean XP installation it still runs very poorly. i

am using 1.1.3 with 3d acceleration and both cpus checked off to use. i

have a gig of ram allotted to the image and i have tried 2 gigs of ram

for it to and its not any better. i feel like im running XP on a 10

year old machine with 256mb of ram. even basic tasks like launching

outlook and composing email is painfully slow.

i have fusion running on my macbook pro as well and have no trouble with it at all.

my macbook is running 10.5 and my desktop is running 10.4.

anyone have ANY insight to any of this? its driving me nuts.. i cant upgrade

the desktop machine to 10.5 any time soon, so thats not something i can

try. it ran fine on 10.4 before, so i cant see how that would fix

anything. i have tried 1.1.1, 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 versions of fusion and

they all run the image the same.

I have the same problem -- but find that if I hard boot the Mac (hold down the power key), typically I will get a Can't load/recover message about workspace (or something like that) from Fusion and if I select Discard, then the image loads fine and the old performance is restored.

I do NOT like to have to do this type of hard reboot (one of these days, it will go to purgatorio!), but it does suggests where the problem is -- fragmentation of this.

I'm running 7.1.1 VMware Fusion with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 OS.

I do not see an option for app nap when I do a get Info.

Display Topology update request issue with Win 7 VMs but not XP

Running VMWARE Fusion Version 7.1.1 (2498930) on Mac OS 10.10.3

Two NVIDIA cards, five monitors.

Unity works fine with a vm running Windows XP SP3.

When trying to enter Unity from a VM running Winows 7 x64 SP1 or x86  I consistently get "Display Topology update request could not be completed in guest" and then the VM gets all confused and falls back to the Windowed state.

Once, right after re-running the system assessment in Control Panel I got  "ResolutionSetTopology failed" - still no Unity love though.

Since Unity works fine with a Windows XP vm, I assume we really should not blame my Mac  ;-)

Any suggestions?

Thx!

Set Guest Applications Window Border Color in Unity View in VMware Fusion 7?

VMware Workstation allows users to configure border colors for guest VM application windows appearing on the host desktop.

Does VMware Fusion offer this configuration?  How does one find it?

VLANs to VMs without host access

$

I am evaluating Fusion Pro under OSX 10.10.  I am bring two groups of VLANs into the machine on the two builtin NICs.  Each group is a different security level and of course the VLANs must not leak traffic to each other.

It appears that the VMs I create can only connect to a VLAN if that VLAN is "active" on the host OS.  Meaning I have to have ALL VLANs active on the host OS for the many VMs to see them.  Meaning the host OS is effectively tying all the VLANs together and might multicast who knows what to any / all of the VLANs....?

I would like each VM to have access to exactly one VLAN, without any connection between the VLANs at the host OS level.

Am I missing something or is this a limitation of Fusion?

Thanks!!

From there I get to the "system recovery options" page and have tried all my options. Any thoughts on next steps? Thanks in advance to anyone that might have ideas...

Been trouble shooting at this for some time now, freshly installed a virtual 10.9.5 OSX on my 10.10.3 macmini(mid2011) with fusion pro, it is very unstable!

tried to connect to a network drive KP and reboot.

i have no idea why it crashes!

this is the error detail, see attached rtf:

this is the error detail, see attached rtf:

Its fully updated and i have a 10.8.5 virtual machine running on this server with no problems and is not affected with the crashes.

VMware Tools is fully updated, but I still see "3D acceleration requires updating VMware Tools in this virtual machine."

I'm running Fusion 7.1.1 with a Win 8.1 Bootcamp partition. VMware tools are fully updated, but every time I launch Fusion and look at the settings for the machine, I get the following message:

I've tried:

-Reinstalling VMware tools

-Uninstalling VMware tools, removing Bootcamp machine from Fusion, then re-adding Bootcamp machine and reinstalling VMware Tools

Any ideas what the issue could be?

Mavericks Guest OS Resolution resets on restart

$

I run a virtualized automation lab via VMWare Fusion.  This lab is used to QA test Mac software.  I have dozens of VMs running on a variety of Mac hardware using VMWare Fusion 6.0.2.  The problem I am seeing is that the Mavericks VMs have their screen resolution reset to 1024x768 upon every reboot and that is the only resolution available in the System Preferences Display panel.

The way I set up VMs is like so:

1. Using the VMWare Fusion app create a new VM and install the operating system.

2. Install VMWare Tools in the guest.  Restart the VM.

3. Configure the guest OS with my settings.  This always includes setting the screen resolution to something above 1400x1050.  I do this by stretching the window in the VMWare Fusion application or by setting the resolution via System Preferences.

4. Shutdown the VM and make a copy of it.  This copy is my default state.

In actual use after that the VMs are run headless using vmrun with the nogui argument.  For all versions of OS X VMs the resolution stays the same when the VM is restarted.  For Mavericks VMs the resolution is changed to 1024x768.

For all other OSes multiple resolutions show up in the System Preferences Display panel.  For Mavericks only that one resolution appears in the Scaled options.

I have tried the steps in KB 1003:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1003&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB…

but that did not fix the problem.

I have tried turning 3d acceleration on and off and the problem exists in both cases.  Changing the resolution by resizing the window while using VMWare Fusion app works fine but that is not possible when running headless.

Tech support via phone suggested I post this problem to the community and see if there are any answers here.  Thanks in advance.

How do I move the 'Virtual Machines' folder out of my Documents folder?

$

VMwareFusion is putting the 'Virtual Machines' folder in the Documents folder under the home folder ( /users/[USERNAME]/Documents ), how do I move it somewhere else (like /Library/Application Support)? The user Documents folder is not the right place for automated system files like this, it's meant for personal documents.

I'm running VMware Fusion on OS X Yosemite (and the vm is Windows 7).

USB Scanner problems after upgrading to VMware Fusion 7

My USB Scanner Canon DR-C130 has worked fine under Windows 7 Professional with VMware Fusion 6, but in VMware Fusion 7 ist will stop until the document was scanned. I had to switch off the scanner to finish the scan job and to see the document.

The KB Article (VMware KB: Troubleshooting USB devices using USB quirks in Fusion ) won't work, i get the message: .vmx-File has an error.

Any suggestions?

Ultrawide LG Screen and Unity

$

VMWare Fusion 7 Pro, running with OS X 1010, trying to run as Unity on an LG 34UC97 causes VMWare to silently close, and any attempt to open a Control Panel for example attempts to open a desktop window, and load the Unity Control panel separately, before closing the app without error.

Upped video memory to 2048, and turned off the option for max resolution with Retina, but no dice.

Originally installed, and then reinstalled VMWare tool, but noticed this in the logs;

2015-06-02T19:43:27.342Z| VMware Fusion| I120: OnGuestCanRunUnityChanged: Tools status is not INSTALLED

Anyone else having this issue?

Any ideas of solution?

Martin
