My Virtual Machine doesn't start anymore in Fusion

Hi,

today I updated my macbook pro to 10.8.5, and I also performed the SMC firmware update

Then i updated to Fusion 6.0.1, and since then I'm unable to open my virtual machine.

When I do it I get a series of little windows tihg OK button saying:

- Unable to retrieve kernel symbols.

- Failed to initialize monitor device.

- Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to

Then I uninstalled manually Fusion 6.0.1, installed 6.0.0 and I got the same thing.

Then I uninstalled Fusion 6.0.0 manually, installed Fusion 5, changed virtual machine but still

I got the same little windows.

Anyone has an idea why this is happening?

thanks

Fusion 7 graphics performance - Windows Experience Index drops

I re-ran the Windows Experience Index following the upgrade to Fusion 7.

My CPU and Hard Drive results remained the same, and my memory result (operations per second) increased from 5.5 to 7.4 which is great.

I saw my graphics performance drop however :-

* Desktop performance for Windows Aero went from 5.4 to 4.4

* 3D business and gaming graphics went from 4.7 to 4.5

Anyone else seeing similar results? I am running on an early 2011 MacBook Pro with a 2.3GHz Core i5, 8GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB, and my VM is running with 2 cores and 4GB of memory assigned.

I have a Win7 running in Fusion 7.1 and would like to use Logitech  K360 wireless keyboard in Win7 because of it can custom the function key.

However, when I plug in the keyboard receiver, there is no USB device detected and ask me which to connect to (OS X or Win7).

The keyboard can function normally but there is no where to set the function key combination in the Logitech SetPoint progarm.

Anyone has idea what happen? Please advise.

How to use 2 displays out of 3 in full screen

Hello,

I use Fusion to run Linux Ubuntu for development purposes. My mac is connected to 3 monitors. I would like to use 2 of those monitors for my VM in full screen mode. I have found the "Use All Displays in Full Screen" setting, however, I need to keep one of the 3 monitors displaying the Mac OS X and not the VM.

Any ideas how to configure the VM to do this?

Truecrypt container on shared disk

I am currently running Windows 7 with Parallels on Mac OS X 10.10.3 (Yosemite).  This is on a 2012 macbook Pro.  I am trialling Fusion 7.   I ran Fusion for years back in the V3/4 days.  Switched to Parallels for some reason I don't recall and now reviewing that decision.

I backup sensitive data to a truecrypt container on a shared disk.  Sometimes the backup works and other times not.  Usually, if I dismount and remount the container it will work.  I have tried saving a file to the container and then deleting it.  I sometimes get file handle error on the delete, but it ends up deleting.  I vaguely remember having a similar problem in my past that was resolved.  This works perfectly on Parallels.  Sorry for so few details.

Everything else seems to work seamlessly, albeit, I perceive a little slower.

Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 all have this same issue. When on a WebEx and I try to share my screen or an application the viewers are unable to view anything. its just a solid grey screen. When I enable High performance Graphics they can see everything as normal.

Will I be able to reserve a copy of Windows 10 using my Windows 8.1 VM?

$

Hi,

I've managed to get the Windows 10 reservation app to run in my Windows 8.1 VM.

Currently it says Windows 10 can't be installed on this PC because it doesn't have enough RAM (I've assigned the VM 4GB) and also because of the VMware SVGA 3D graphics adapter.

So, this means I can't reserve my copy of Windows 10 using this VM.

I know that Windows 10 will be freely available upon launch, but I'm just wondering because I'm running in a VM, does this mean I won't be able to reserve my launch-day copy?

Thanks, Paul

VMWare Fusion Machine runs very slow... used to run fine!

i have been running VMWare Fusion on my dual,

dual core 3ghz xeon intel mac for over a year. it was originally a

parallels image that i converted to vmware using their converter. it

worked great for a long time. i was able to run 3dsmax along with all

my OS X apps, CS3, all that good stuff. i have 4 gigs of ram.

over the last few months, the vmware image began to run VERY slow, windows

and menus are very laggy and slow and redraw on maximizing and

minimizing is very poor. i thought maybe it was the stability of that

particular image so i built a new one from scratch in fusion using xp

disks. even with the clean XP installation it still runs very poorly. i

am using 1.1.3 with 3d acceleration and both cpus checked off to use. i

have a gig of ram allotted to the image and i have tried 2 gigs of ram

for it to and its not any better. i feel like im running XP on a 10

year old machine with 256mb of ram. even basic tasks like launching

outlook and composing email is painfully slow.

i have fusion running on my macbook pro as well and have no trouble with it at all.

my macbook is running 10.5 and my desktop is running 10.4.

anyone have ANY insight to any of this? its driving me nuts.. i cant upgrade

the desktop machine to 10.5 any time soon, so thats not something i can

try. it ran fine on 10.4 before, so i cant see how that would fix

anything. i have tried 1.1.1, 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 versions of fusion and

they all run the image the same.

USB connection dropped on restart

I'm on Fusion 7.1.1. and OS X 10.10.3. In earlier versions of Fusion and OS X, a USB connection would survive a restart of a Virtual Machine (Windows 8.1 in my case).

What happens now is that each time I restart the Virtual Machine, the USB connection is lost and has to be manually reconnected. The device is a Panasonic USB Adapter.

Any ideas how to fix this so that the device reconnects automatically on a restart as was previously the case?

Thanks a lot

VMWare Fusion pro 7.1.1 - Unresponsiveness running yosemite as guest

Hi All,

I have a Macbook pro (mid 2014, 16GB ram w/discrete video card) running Yosemite. When I run a yosemite guest, the video is very laggy, and the vm is generally not very responsive.

The guest has 4 cores, 4GB of ram, 256MB of video memory (using discrete card only for 3D applications only) and is running the latest vmware 'hardware' and vmware tools. I have disabled sound and bluetooth.

Is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

Thanks!

I go to updates, it tells me I need to restart to install updates, I do restart but updates never install. Is this something you guys can help me with please.

This is the output of such Windows 10 reservation program:

Mac OS 10.11 and VMware Fusion

Who's going to be the first guinea pig to see if the current version of Fusion will run on El Capitan? (Mac OS X 10.11)  :-)

Yes, yes, I know that VMware doesn't support beta OS versions;  I'm just hoping someone else tests it so I don't have to...

EDIT:  I'm curious to know about both as a Host and as a Guest, either separately or together.

Thanks!

El Capitan, Metal and OS X guest acceleration

$

Until now, implementing acceleration on OS X guests has proved difficult or impossible, presumably due to the way OS X handles graphics. Yesterday it was announced that Metal is coming to El Capitan. I wonder whether that will change the situation as regards the feasibility of acceleration for OS X guests in Fusion virtual machines. Anyone care to comment? More specifically, how realistic it would be to expect, say, a Snow Leopard Server virtual machine to have 3D acceleration under El Capitan in the foreseeable future?

El Capitan Dev Beta and Boot Camp VM

I upgraded to 10.11 and was not able to run my boot camp vm. The fix is to disable SIP a.k.a System Integrity Protection a.k.a Rootless a.k.a Worthless. I tried cmd + R on boot and disabling through Security Configuration as stated at WWDC but recieved Mach error -536870212. A quick search on the apple dev site produced a working fix.

Open Terminal.

sudo su

[enter password]

nvram boot-args="rootless=0"

reboot

I had to reset my shared folders but other than that all seems ok... other than the USB driver error.

this was done on a late 2013 rMBP fusion 7.1.1

Fusion 8?

Hi, everyone.

I currently own Fusion 6, and have been thinking of upgrading to Fusion 7, but Yosemite seems to run v6 just fine.  I fully expect, however, that El Capitan will not run Fusion 6, and that I will need to upgrade.  What I don't want to do, though, is upgrade to Fusion 7 now, and then have to upgrade again in 3 months.  And, I fully expect that VMware will release Fusion 8 around the time El Capitan is released.

Has anyone heard anything about Fusion 8?  I've searched around for it and haven't seen any word about it.

Thanks.

Fusion Win7 guest has mouse and keyboard problems using vSphere Client Console window

$

Hello,

I will label all hosts involved to help provide clarity.

I have a MBP Retina 10.9.2 OSX(host1) that is running latest Vmware Fusion 6.0.2. There is Windows 7 32bit guest VM(host2) running inside of Fusion.

Recently, I installed ESXi 5.5 on an Intel NUC to host Windows 7 machine(host3).

I am running ESXi vSphere Client inside of host2 machine to manage VMs on the ESXi server.

I am having major issues trying to use mouse and keyboard of host3 through vSphere Client Console. I could make a short video, but it appears that the mouse control is flickering between host3 and host2. Resulting in the inability to use mouse and keyboard inside of host3 VM.

Does anybody have a similar setup? Any suggestions?

**Update**

I have reinstalled Vmware Fusion and built out a new Windows 7 host2. All appears to be working for the moment.

Thanks,

Stefan
