how to change USB3 driver under Fusion 7.11 and Win8.1 guest OS

Hello,

I want to change the default USB3 sys driver in Windows 8.1 guest os to a custom USB 3 Driver from cypress.

The USB3 device is a camera development board from e-con Systems.

The CamViewer application works fine with the default Windows usb3 Driver, but for development purpose I have to change the sys driver to a custom driver from cypress (CyUSB3.sys).

I'm on Fusion 7.1.1 and OS X 10.10.3 as the host OS, guest OS is Win8.1.

Thanks,

Wolfgang

Can Fusion boot from USB Drives?

I was wondering if there is a workaroud to boot from external drives? I do computer repair, and it would be great to work on an OS (ie Windows) by just plugging it in directly to my Macbook and having the software recognize the drive as internal so it can boot properly..

Thanks!

How do I install an instance of Yosemite on VMWare Fusion 7?

Just got a Mac Mini with Yosemite preinstalled. I want to install an instance of Yosemite on my VM running Fusion 7. How do I do that? Do I download Yosemite from the App store? Will doing that create any problems?

I'm learning terminal, and I feel much better about futzing with it in a sandbox.

Damaged vmdk file from snapshot - possible workaround?

I have a VM with Windows 7 installed in it, currently running with Fusion 6, but it was created several years ago with an earlier version, maybe 4 or 5, don't remember. There are multiple snapshots in the VM, and one (1) VMDK file related to one of these snapshots happens to be on a physical drive that's throwing read errors.

The file in question is called "Windows 7 x64-000002-s001.vmdk". I understand this is a "redo-log" file.

Due to the read errors, I can't copy that file to a new location. All other files in the VM copy just fine, I rsync'ed the entire folder and only one file is unreadable. It seems I don't have backup either - yes, stupid, but that's how it is.

Can I recover from thissituation somehow? I can definitely live without that snapshot if I can just get the machine running consistently from it's current state.

After Virtualbox .ova file import, no CD drive

After importing a virtual box export of a Windows 7 VM, I have no virtual CD drive, and don't see any way to make one. So I'm unable to install the host tools.

Any ideas?

Fusion 7, Mac OS Yosemite, Retina and TBolt Display

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), with Yosemite 10.10.3, and an external Tbolt Display with Windows 7 64 running in a VM.  I cannot get Windows to use the correct resolution on either the internal or external displays.  The external goes way over actual capabilities of the TBolt display (2880x1800 vs. 2560x1440 actual).  The internal display goes way under actual capabilities (1600x1200 vs 2880x1800 actual).  It also sets up the internal monitor as monitor 2 and the external monitor as monitor 1.  It is almost as if the driver is reporting the screen capabilities backward.  How do I get the VM to recognize the displays properly?

Hello everyone

First post here, hope you're well

I'm nay-seven working for music software, testing Windows 10 on a Mac 10.8.5

After the last Windows update today, some strange results on Vmware side:

the folders on my desktop can't be opened anymore, a mouse over them say "empty folder" and a double click has no result ( can't even delete them)

i also notice a second shortcut on my destktop named " shared folders vmware(1) "

if i open the windows files browser i see a red cross on the "shared folders( \\vmware-host)(Z:) " if i try to open it  a message say " Z: is not accessible...

if someone can help me on this issue, my appz works but this false desktop is a bit annoying

Check for updates function: is it broken in 7.1.1?

I'm periodically checking download area for Fusion 7.0 using the link from my browser history, and today I've found 7.1.2 update right there, so I've downloaded it manually from VMWare website. At the same time, just out of curiosity, I've checked for update using appropriate menu item in Fusion 7.1.1 installed on my Mac mini, and it said that 7.1.1 is the latest version available. What's the reason of this mismatch? Why aren't updates added to the appropriate location so that users of older versions can get the update?

Hello

One of my virtual machines have died on me. I cant resume it, i cant force resume it. I cant even view the settings for the machine. When clicking buttons in the machine library, nothing happens.

The console log shows an error:

VMware Fusion: Error (1000) creating window shape

I run Fusion 6.0.6 on Yosemite. All other machines works just fine. Anyone have an idea what to do to get it running again?

Ubuntu 15.04 guest in Fusion 7.1.x env.

Officially Ubuntu 15.04 is not supported in Fusion 7.x.

How are the chances for this combi to work as fine as Fusion 7.x along with Ubuntu 14.04?

Actually the 15.04 guest installation ran without any probs.

Simple usage with web browsing (not intensive) works fine.

However, the question is how are the chances the combi to be stable in wide sense.

Hosts hdd power management while guest makes big data transfer

Hi, In our env the guest - a Linux distro - is often used to make big data transfers.

Source is some partition on usb external storage, destination an other partition on same usb external

or other usb external device.

While this usb external storage device is populated to the guest are any settings to be done in Fusion

in order the hosts hard disk power management does not interfere the transfer?

Or are all measures to be carried out within the host os?

Clean Up Virtual Machine progress window size - Fusion 7.1.1

After doing an in place upgrade from Fusion 7.0.1 to 7.1.1 in Mountain Lion and updating VMware Tools, the size of the Settings>General window that opens when the Clean Up Recommended button at the bottom of the VM Library is clicked stretches horizontally either to the limit of the monitor's screen (27" LED Cinema Display, Mac Pro 5,1) or beyond it, so that it has to be dragged left to reach the Clean Up Virtual Machine button. This happens on all the Windows VM's I've tried it on. I've been using Fusion for quite some time (version 2 and later) and have never seen this happen before. Fortunately, that's on a backup test disk so my boot partition, still running 7.0.1, is unchanged.

Any ideas on how to fix that would be appreciated.

VMware Tools will not launch on VMware Fusion 4.1.3

Recently vmware tools stopped launching on my virtual machine running windows xp. When I try to repair the installation, the installer quits advising it cannot complete. I tried to download the iso file for 4.1.3. but when installing was advised that a newer version is already installed. I don't know how to check the version installed, or which version I should be downloading to try a clean install.

Would be grateful for any help or direction.

Fusion 7.1.2 - Corrupted Update File - How to Remove?

$

I just tried updating from Mac Fusion 7.1.1 to 7.1.2.

The download seemed to work, but when the files we checked for validation, the VM Core file was found to be corrupt, and the update aborted.

So I decided to try again - only this time, Fusion did not attempt to do any downloading: instead, it simply tried to validate and expand the previously downloaded update files. The VM Core update once again reported as corrupted, and the update aborted.

I've tried rewinding to a backup version of Fusion using Time Machine, but even then, the update finds and tries to open the existing download files, including the corrupted VM Core,

The BIG question is this: How do I force a fresh download of the corrupted VM Core Update file?

I don't even know where to find the file, so I can manually delete it.

Help, please, anyone!

Thanks in advance,

Brian

VMWare Fusion 7.1.2: Module Disk power on failed

Running a Windows 10 client on Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan - yes, I know I'm asking for trouble running a beta OS on a beta OS but this is not a mission-critical machine...

After installing OSX 10.11, cannot access the VM with the error

Cannot open the disk '/Users/David/Library/Application Support/VMWare Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/Boot Camp 3.vmwarevm/Boot Camp 3.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.Module Disk power on failed.  Failed to start the virtual machine'.

Running the Windows machine from Boot Camp works fine.

Any ideas to fix or do I just have to wait for Win 10, El Cap or VMWare to catch up?

VMware Fusion 7 and Windows 10 Compatibility

$

I run Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using Fusion 7.  When the Get Windows 10 app appeared, I was pleased, and immediately went to reserve it.  Unfortunately, the app informed me that my system was not compatible with Windows 10 and therefore I could not reserve a copy.  The specific error received is, "This PC can't run Windows 10,"  and the reason given is, "VMware SVGA 3D, Your display won't work."  I find this a bit odd, since when I run the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Checker it says that everything is fine, including the SVGA driver.

I queried on Microsoft's support site, and was told that this wasn't a Microsoft problem, but instead a VMware problem.  They stated that it would be up to VMware to create a driver that is compatible with Windows 10.

Is this something that is in the works?  I'd certainly like to take advantage of Microsoft's offer to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Thanks for any enlightening answers.

VMWare Fusion 7.1.2 and OS X 10.10.3 - Mac Book Pro 15" (mid 2014) crashes when lid is closed for for more than 3 hours

VMWare 7.1.2 cause the OS to crash when it starts after the lid has been closed for more than 3 hours.

I'm running a Mac Book Pro 15" (mid 2014) with 16GB of memory.

There are 3 WMs with W7 Pro. If any of them are running when i close the lid and wait for more than 3 hours the computers main OX crashes with the notice of Sleep Wake Failure. If VMWare is completely shut down (as well as all Windows OS), then the Mac does not crash when asleep overnight. I have checked the transfer power to VM checkbox and all 3D acceleration options are set to OFF on all the WMs.

Earlier I run a Mac Book Pro 17" from early 2011 and Fusion 6 and never experienced any problems but when i changed to the new Mac Book Pro in February these Sleep Wake Failures came immediately. I have read and tried most of the tips from similar posts on the Forum but with no luck.

Yesterday i upgraded to Fusion 7.1.2 with the good hope that it should solve the problem but unfortunately not.

I think that it definitely must be a Apple problem since the OS not should be able to crash due to any thing a application running on the OS could cause even though I guess that Fusion are doing something fishi since it worked fine in earlier versions.

Does anyone have a solution for these crashes - they are driving my mad?

I have attached the crash log in full.
