Have a very old account; prompts me to fill in more account fields; does not work; who should I contact?

I have a very old VMware account.  When attempting to visit MyVMware website, it redirected me to fill in more fields about my account summary.

Many of the required fields have 'empty pulldown box', thereby making it impossible to complete the form.  This occured in Firefox 57 and Chrome 60 (and latest Safari as well.)

How do I get in touch with the webmaster to fix this form.https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/registration?redirectURL=https://www.vmware.com/account/secure/productRegistration.do?action=existingCustomer&registerURL=/group/vmware/home&source=LICP

2-sec delay for keystrokes involving Fn (Function) key in any VM since 10.13.2 upgrade (from 10.13.1)

$

0

Since upgrading OSX to 10.13.2, I have noticed any keystroke involving the Fn key (Fn+delete, or Fn+Left arrow, etc...) has approx. 2 second delay before the keystroke occurs onscreen.

This occurs in all my VM's (Windows 10x64 and Centos 6.5). All were working fine prior to upgrade.

Any subsequent keystrokes seem to queue behind the delayed keystroke, and present onscreen at the same time the delayed keystroke does. The keystrokes all work, but it is irritating when trying to forward delete characters, or skip to beginning or end of a line, etc...

I have no issue with other key combos such as Ctrl+left, Alt+Tab, etc.

I have tried, without success: Graceful shutdown of VM's, reboot of Mac. Upgraded from Fusion 8.5.9 > 8.5.10. Reinstall VMware Tools, Looked through Fusion Prefs, VM Settings, etc for anything relevant.

As a side note, I have experienced the 'stuck keys' issue others have mentioned a couple of times, though this has occurred sporadically over the years, across a number of Fusion & OSX releases. It has never been a persistent issue, and is something I have come to accept as 'normal'...

Affected VM's :

3x W10x64 VM's, HW version 12

Centos 6.5, HW11

Host Details:

OSX 10.13.2, MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2 GB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Any suggestions would be welcomed, this is driving me up the wall! Have been using fusion for about 5 years, so like to think I have half a clue... Thanks in advance for any assistance rendered.

Hi,

I'm trying to create a VMWare Fusion 8 .pkg for mass deployment, I followed the KB document 2058680 "Creating a VMware Fusion mass deployment package and after trying the instructions I can see an error on the installation.

I see the document the last update is around 2015... I want to know if there is a way i can create the package with the license key for deployment.

Thanks.

Fusion 10 MacBook Pro Touch Bar configuration?

$

Is it possible to configure what is displayed on the touchbar?  As it comes out of the box is pretty horrible.  You can no longer see all of the function keys and instead see a bunch of garbage.  Maybe if I could configure what is displayed I would accept having to press a button to see the function keys again and would not care that I have to slide the function keys over to see keys F10, F11, and F12.  At this point I would be happy to go back to no touch bar support.  If it isn't possible to configure the touch bar, is it at least possible to turn off support all together?

I'm obviously quiet unhappy with the default configuration.  I would go back to a previous version of Fusion except my work recently upgraded to the latest vCenter and I need this support from the new Fusion 10.

After High Sierra Upgrade

After upgrade can no longer open my Windows10 "BootCamp"

I can open up Windows within Bootcamp, aka hitting option and selecting the "Windows" labeled hard drive image/icon.

It used to be labeled "Bootcamp" now it's label "Windows"

Thus why I think it's not working within Fusion 10 Pro

What is state of Fusion 8.x and High Sierra

$

0

Looking around I see things like Fusion 8.x works but is not officially supported on High Sierra -- makes me nervous -- I depend of Fusion.

No prob -- I'll just upgrade to Fusion 10.

Aha -- Fusion 10 won't run VMs on my late 2010 hardware.

This of course leave me in a ridiculous situation where Fusion is forcing me to purchase new systems if I want to stay MacOS current.

I can't quickly find on the VMware site the "official" statement.

I'm hoping it says something like of course Fusion 8.x supports High Sierra.

Others with this dilemma?

Thanks.

Hi,

For quite a while now and also with another new installation i just did, automattic mouse relese doesn't work anymore. I always have to hit Cmd+Ctrl to release the mouse from windows to the Mac. Is there anything i forgot to setup? Anything special i need to do?

Thanks for helping,

NAT not working on Fusion 10.0.1

$

I upgraded to 10.0.1 (although because of other issues it was a bit of a manual install. Now, I notice the bridge mode works but NAT mode does not. I've tried:

  • restarting VMware Fusion
  • rebooting the Mac
  • removing and reinstalling the network adapter in the VM Preferences
  • There is nothing in the System Preferences > Security waiting to be "approved" as other folks have noted when they saw similar issues

vmnet(1,8) are visible in the output of ifconfig on the host system.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

VMWARE Fusion 10 on MAC, Windows 10 Start menu and search not working

$

0

I just installed the "Professional Version 10.0.1 (6754183)" release and my Start menu and search no longer work in windows. I can click other applications and I can right click most applications, but the main ones no longer work.

I tried creating a new profile and it does not work on the other profiles either.

This is sort of important to have as everything in windows (Albeit really a super poor design and attempt, that should be taken out back and shot) relies heavily on the menu and search. As they try and recreate every menu from 7 and hide the ones that actually work, with the new "apps" version, you cannot access certain things from the GUI without access to the start and search...

Any help is greatly appreciated, otherwise I will need to roll back to the old version of VMware Fusion Pro.

Installing VMware tools or updating doesn't work with 10.1.1 upgrade on Mac.

I just recently did this upgrade and as I usually do, I uninstall VMware tools and reinstall.  Being a long-time user, this has always proved prudent.  However with this recent upgrade, when I try to reinstall the tools, nothing happens.  Apparently the virtual CD-ROM is not being created and therefore I cannot run setup.exe from it.  Not all is lost because I had a back up of the virtual machine but in 10.1.  I have everything running in Windows 10 but I can't update the tools nor can I cancel installation (which isn't working) as it is greyed out in the pull down menu.  Only way to do this is to turn off the virtual machine.  Hope that made sense.

Any ideas how to install the tools?  What am I missing?

VMWare Fusion 10.1.1 (7520154) Windows 10 Guest Resets Resolution upon Focus

$

I am having an issue that was not present before my recent software update from 10.0.1 to 10.1.1. My external display has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 but the Windows guest always resets it to 5120 x 2880 upon focus of the VM window. I can set it back to 2560 x 1440 through Window 10's "Display Settings", which will stay only until my focus changes again. This makes work very difficult as I need to change focus often between my guest and host machines.

Been working on this for a few hours now with no luck. I have not found any similar issues on this form or in my google searches. I do not know how to proceed. Are there logs that I could provide? System details can be found below.

I just upgraded from Fusion 8 to Fusion 10, and now gui.fullScreenOnAllHostDisplays isn't working anymore.

Locked Fusion 8.5 .vmdk file running virtual Windows 7 on MacOS Sierra

$

Embarrassed to say I've got myself into a pickle and hope respondents will be kind to luddite posing as a techie....

I'm trying to deal with a locked VM and cannot find a way around the error "One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or by a snapshot" when trying to resume.  So far, all searches for a solution that works for others are failing me; although, I may simply not be understanding the directions. I have tried deleting .lck files and tried copying my "Window 7.vmdk" file then replacing with copy, but problem persists.

The backstory in case it helps:

I have been reliably running VMWare fusion since 2008 to run a Windows VM on my Mac Pro (early 2008).  I have been keeping the system up-to-date, but the MacOS topped out at Sierra with High Sierra a no go for the early 2008 model. I'm using VMware Fusion 8.5 to run a Windows 7 VM, which I use as my primary work environment.

Today I was deploying a long overdue replacement for the whole computer, so I was trying to backup the old system to prepare for migration.  The new system is not otherwise relevant.  Unfortunately the Mac incurred a hard restart while the VM was open.  Starting Fusion after the reboot triggered an update notification for Fusion and I let it deploy Version 8.5.10 immediately rather than verifying the VM was working.  (Overconfident since I've gotten the error on a hard restart before, but usually I've been able to solve the problem with some reboots and perhaps a deletion of a .lck file.)

The primary 119.48 GB VM file is simply called "Window 7.vmdk" and is located on the same hard drive as the MacOS; however, it is tied to a 383.33 GB VM file called "G-flat.vmdk", which is on a separate hard drive (inside same Mac).

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Kernel Panic - restart; Freezing since Fusion update to 10.1.1

$
0
0

Since the update to 10.1.1 - at least 3 times a day, my Mac will freeze (and not come out of it without a hard reboot), or will get a kernel panic causing the system to reboot. Granted, Apple just had an update and so ran everything yesterday, all day, without running Fusion and did not run into any issues. On the freeze, sometime it happens when waking up, sometimes I will be working on something on the computer, step away for 15 to 20 mins (without it going to sleep), start to work on something...freezes, gives me the ball - and sometimes it looks like it starts to shutdown (programs start closing in the background) and then it hangs. 2 hours later. Still hanging.

So - at the moment, it appears to be something going on with Fusion that causes the freeze or sometimes the kernel panic (I step away for lunch or dinner and come back to a rebooted system). I currently have the following:

Fusion 10.1.1

Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2014)

Running High Sierra, 10.13.2 (17C205)

2.5 GHz, Intel Core i7

16GB memory, 1600 MHz DDR3

So my most recent step is to open up Compatibility in Fusion and step down the hardware version to 12 (as I was having the same issue with freeze and reboot, but maybe once every other day at 10.0.1). Will see what happens here. If that doesn't work, plan to run in Unity mode and see how that fares.

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue since Fusion update to 10.1.1

Thanks

Richard

Lost key-up events cause auto-repeat strings in Windows 7 guest (VMware Fusion 8.5.10, iMac 27" High Sierra 10.13.2)

$
0
0

I run Windows 7 and Linux guests in full-screen on a 27" Retina iMac with High Sierra 10.13.2.  I've had the following inconvenient symptom for a while now (several VMware update cycles, at least).

When typing in a guest word processor or other program (MSWord, PowerPoint) I use keyboard editing commands such as ctrl-X, ctrl-V, ctrl-Z.  Sometimes the "Ctrl" keypress isn't recognized, so I just get X, V or Z.  Other times, the Ctrl release isn't recognized, so everything I type for a while becomes Ctrl-...   And sometimes, the key release for a regular letter is missed, so the guest OS thinks I'm still holding down the key and starts entering a stream of autorepeat letters.

I've tried the various gaming/mouse and keyboard settings, but none of them seem to affect this behavior.

Any good way to track this down or fix it?
