How to permanently delete file in windows 7 virtual and decrease the size of the file (. vmwarevm).
VMWare Fusion Virtual Server client
Hi,
I've virtualised a physical server and single client (server 2008r2 and win 7) and I need these to act like they are on the same physical network, as I am testing some WDS deployments. I therefore need the WIn 7 VM to get its IP from the servers DHCP. At the moment I can't seem to achieve this, the instructions I found for this are for VMware Workstatsion which I can't run as I'm doing all this on a mac.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance,
Ken
NAT not working in Fusion 10.1.1 for Windows 10 after MAC OS update 10.13.2
After performing the update last night from Apple, my network on my Windows 10 no longer works. When I attempt to ping, I get "PING: transmit failed. General failure." The network adapter shows as Unidentified Network for the Intel 82574L Gigabit adapter. I have attempt to reset it, disable it, and repair it, but still have the issue. Rebooted as well.
Any ideas?
Edit - Bridged Autodetect works. It seems to be isolated to NAT.
Fusion 10.1.1, VMWare Tools 10.2, & Windows 10 Fall Creators Update
Like everyone else, I had severe problems after the recent Windows update with saving files to shared folders. This seemed to resolve with the update of VMWare Tools to 10.2.0.7259539.
Unfortunately, the problems with Office 365 (MSWord in particular) continue - frequent freezes and 'Not Responding'. It looks like Word takes up 99+% of the CPU when it's frozen, which can last minutes at a time and occasionally causes Word to crash. I discovered that I had installed the 32-bit version of Office and changed that to the 64-bit version to match the machine. This doesn't go away with uninstall/reinstall of VMWare Tools. Can anything be done about the CPU issue?
Hoping to get MSOffice back!
USB Problem - Did Everything Still a #FAIL! Please Help!
Long story short but I accidentally unplugged my two external hard drives from my Mac while running a Windows XP virtual machine. Before this happened, the drives worked reliably on my Mac and on my VM and I never had any problem (I use a hub - but see below that's not the problem).
Now each time I plug them in, they are correctly read by my Mac (and by another PC), but in the VM I get an error message stating that the device is unable to connect to its ideal host, as below:
The USB device is not recognized, as below:
and:
I spent about 6 hours trying to fix this problem to no avail; here is more info below:
- MacOS 10.13.2
- VMWare Fusion 10.1.1
- VMware Tools 10.0.12
- I use a powered USB hub with six ports, my guess is that's why in the screenshot above, we see six 'unused ports'
- The problem persists even if I plug the USB drives directly in the Mac
- The problem now happens with any USB disk or drive, even those which were not plugged at the time of the incident.
- All the drives and disks work on the Mac and on other PC.
- I even fired up a clean VM from a back-up (Windows XP) and the problem persists even with that generic 'untouched' VM!
- I reinstalled VMWare Fusion (did a complete uninstall using Clean My Mac 3) and the problem persisted!
- Solutions that did not work:
- Reinstalling VMWare Fusion
- Formatting one of the drives
- Reinstalling VMWare tools
- Removing USB controller from the VMWare Fusion settings, then reinstalling the controller
- Reducing the USB compatibility to USB 1.1, USB 2.0 from the VMWare Fusion settings
- Under System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General tab, nothing is blocked
- Within Windows XP, deleting the driver and trying to reinstall it
- Within Windows XP, trying to update the USB driver
- All of the above directly were tried multiple times, both while using the hub and plugged directly in the Mac
- Everything that would apply to my problem from a bunch of posts (this article, this one, this other less relevant one, and some others)
Points #8 and #9 above make me think this may be tied to MacOS? Yet if so, how come the drives work flawlessly when used directly on the Mac instead of on the VM (they work flawlessly either plugged into the Mac directly or via the hub)?
PS: these are the USB services that are running:

Accidentally deleted Mac Partition while installing windows on VMware fusion
While I was trying to install Windows 10 on VMware fusion 8 on my Macbook Pro operating on macos Sierra, I created a new partition when they asked me where I wanted to install Windows on. So it was initially "Drive 0 unallocated space" and when I created the new partition it became "Drive 0 Partition System Reserved" and "Drive 0 Partition 2". However, I accidentally deleted "Drive 0 Partition System Reserved" and now it became "Drive 0 unallocated space" and "Drive 0 Partition 1" as shown in the image below. I was worried that I may have accidentally deleted something important and would like to clarify or seek help on how to restore it. Because even after closing the setup and opening it again it does not go back to just the unallocated space. I have yet to click next because I heard that if I do so it will permanently delete some important data. Please help! Thank you!
Resolution Problems with Retina iMac
I use a iMac 5K with newest Fusion version. My virtual screen resolution is set to 3840x2400 pix, graphic ram is 2048 MB. During normal use, after some time the screen starts to have black areas in different apps like Quicken or MS Solitaire. A restart solves the problem. In addition the display of low res video shrinks the resolution of the whole fusion window to the res of the video.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael
MacOS 10.13.2 + Fusion 10.1.1 / tools 10.2.0 Unity not working
Hello,
I've had this problem since the last Mac security update to 10.13.2
The unity option exists, but when I select it the VM window goes away but the taskbar and start menu does not appear on my Mac OS desktop, I have looked for "hide options" and cannont find any that are set, to me it looks like unity is just not displaying the components.
Everything works fine in window or full screen.
I have reinstalled VMtools and it doesn't solve it.
Any thoughts ?
Fusion 10.4 & VMWare Tools 10.2 & Windows 10 Fall Creators Update file error with large files
I am running High Sierra 10.13.2, VMWare Tools 10.2, Windows 10 Fall. Similar issue to Fusion 10.0.1 & Windows 10 Fall Creators Update however I am getting the same issue with larger files 10Mb. Basically I can open the file but not save the file without getting a file error
Can't open VMs after upgrading to High Sierra, error message: 'Internal Error'
After upgrading to High Sierra (10.13.2) I started getting the error message 'Cannot find a valid peer process to connect' when I tried to open a virtual machine. I a few recommendations on this forum suggesting changing the VMWare Fusion's application directory and/or reinstalling (which would hopefully prompt a Mac to pop something up about security which I could then accept in the 'Security & Privacy' control panel). I did both of these (numerous times - including numerous reboots) but it didn't help and nothing appeared in my Security & Privacy dialog.
Since reinstalling I'm now getting 'Internal Error' when I try to start my VMs.
I've attached my error logs, I'm using VMware fusion Version 6.0.4. I use VMs for work so really need to fix this asap.
Many thanks,
Jimmy

Upgrading macOS & Fusion with Bootcamp VM
Has anybody managed to upgrade macOS to from Sierra to High Sierra, and upgrade Fusion to from v8 to v10, AND be able to continue using their existing BootCamp Windows 10 installation with Fusion?
I am just concerned about whether it is all going to work and if I will end up having to reinstall Windows and stuff (which I would very much like to avoid if possible).
VMWare Fusion and Centos 7 Minimal Cut and Paste not working
I installed a minimal (CLI no Gui) Centos 7 on Vmware Fusion 10.1.1 today.
I confirmed that open-vm-tools (10.1.5.3) is installed and rebooted after VMware tools install. I did a yum sudo yum install epel-release
prior to installing open-vm-tools.
For some reason I cannot get cut and paste working from my Mac to Centos. I am using the default Keyboard profile.
Can any give me a pointer to what I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help.

reset IP address assigned via DHCP _always_ to same host
I have 3 hosts: h1, h2, h3. They get their IP addresses via DHCP on a host-only vnet. First time I started them I did in this order h1, h3, h2 so they got addresses ending in .142, .143 and .144 respectively. Now everytime I boot them they get the same IPs no matter which order they boot. How can I reset this? (I want to start h2 second to get .143).
Windows 10 install problem -- Fusion Professional Version 10.1.1 (7520154)
OS 10.13.1 on new MacBook Pro. Windows has never successfully installed and gets stuck on a blue screen with a stop code. Pretty useless to me at this point and many hours off trying over and over with online help, youtube help, etc. Would really like to get this running since it is necessary for my school work...Thanks!
Fusion 10.1.1 (Windows 7), High Sierra- Frequent Crashing
I "upgraded" my Late 2013 rMBP from El Capitan/Fusion 8.5.8 to High Sierra/Fusion 10.1.1 last Thursday (1/18). The Mac OS is only stable when I don't boot the Windows VM in Fusion (e.g.it crashes a lot when I boot the VM) My s crashed ~6 times during the work day on Friday, and another ~5 times over the weekend. The OS is nice and stable till I boot VMware Fusion, then usually hangs/crashes/auto-reboots within 30 minutes.
Is this happening to anyone else? Any ideas on how to stabilize things?
Thanks.
Fusion List Of Applications
Fusion doesn't seem to drop applications from its list of Win 10 apps when an app is uninstalled. There is an application list under the VMWare app. Can an app simply be deleted from this list or is there a maintenance section. The apps in settings is blank but when the + is cleicked it fills up with apps, but doesn't have a delete -.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks

Windows 7 resolution issue
I recently got a new Mac, my first 4K computer. I decided I ought to update my virtual Windows 7, so I reinstalled VMWare Tools.
After I restarted, I found that the resolution had changed. (I'm not sure, but it seems to be a screwed-up 4K size or something.) This wouldn't be a bad thing, but now it runs all my old programs at half size. You see, I use VMWare to play games (ones that don't work in Wine yet), and many of them are old and run in windows at fixed resolutions. But now they're absolutely tiny, making them hard to see. If I try to change the resolution to something smaller, it just makes VMWare as a whole smaller.
So my question is, how do I get Windows back to its old, pixelly resolution? This is kind of beyond me, and Googling didn't bring up anything like this.

Bug (UX issue) report: guest window unwanted resize on host system sleep
When my Mac Pro enters power-saving and/or display-sleep mode, my windows7-guest (on my external 4k monitor) improperly resizes the desktop to the mac's inbuilt LCD size (which messes up the location and size of all my application window).
Fusion should take note of display and host sleep/power-savings events, and NOT communicate display settings/changes/etc to the guest during these brief moments, or, take whatever other action might be needed to preserve our desktops.
