SUWIN error when attempting to install Windows 95 OSR 2.5 in VM in VMWare Fusion 12 on MacOS Big Sur Beta 6

When I create a Windows 95 VM with a boot disk mounted.

I formatted the virtual drive,  managed to get past the setup screen, and agreed to EULA but the general protection fault in module VGA.drv at 0001:0C75 is preventing me from proceeding.

I tend to create old Windows VMs for my nostaligic pleasure.Screen Shot 2020-09-15 at 6.15.44 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-09-15 at 6.15.57 PM.png

No network devices on any VM after updating to version 12 Profession

I updated to Fusion 12 Professional from 11.5.6.  The Mac host is running Catalina 10.15.6.  All VMs show no network devices.  The VMs I run are run Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Windows 10.  Both use bridged networking via Ethernet with static IP assignments from the home router.

With Fusion v12 Professional, do you still have to edit the /Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/networking file to get the bridged networking working?

"Resource Deadlock Avoided" - A cautionary tale...

For years I've been running my Boot Camp VM from a bootable external Hard Drive on my MacBook. This allows me to quickly jump into windows for small things, but retains the ability to boot into Windows directly for work that requires dedicated HW resources. I recently decided to upgrade from a 500GB SSD to a 1TB SSD. After cloning the drive and verifying that I was able to boot from it directly, VMware was unable to create a new Boot Camp VM. I tried to recreate the VMDK using the rawdiskcreator command in Terminal, but it failed repeatedly with the dreaded "Resource Deadlock Avoided" error. I spent days working with VMware support through email but stumbled upon the root cause and pseudo-solution after hours of troubleshooting myself - Fusion relies on the Vendor and Model names to identify the disk target in the VMDK. Since I have twoSamsung T5 SSDs connected (one for Bootcamp; one for Time Machine), it can't discern between them. I've suggested to tech support that they move to something a bit more unique (like the serial number) and hope that message makes its way to the dev team. For now, the workaround is to just unplug my TimeMachine drive when I need to boot up the VM. Hopefully this helps anyone else with a soft spot for brand loyalty (I love the T5 drives) and a heterogenous-OS lifestyle.

VMware Fusion 12

I currently have a retail key for Fusion 8 pro, and didn't realize that v12 was going to be released so soon.

Is there a way to get the 11.5 upgrade and free 12 key still?

I have a VLK key for v11, but it won't work for an upgrade...

And now because I waited a day too late, the online store won't allow me to get 11.5 with the ugrade for $120.

Is there a way to avoid paying $200?

How do I request a free license key

I registered myself as a private user. I downloaded Fusion 12. During installation on my Mac (10.15.6) I selected to request a free license key, but I get sent to a link with a company logon. When I enter the e-mail address I get a message that it already is used.

When I go to My VMware and logon I see that the Fusion 12 is not registered.

I thought after I first had to register to even be able to download Fusion 12 the app would be registered at the same time.

What am I doing wrong?

VMWare Fusion for Apple Silicon?

Apple has announced that they are creating their own desktop-class processors... Apple Silicon, to replace Intel processors in 2021.  Any plans for VMWare Fusion to run on Apple Silicon?  Obviously this would require complete emulation of Intel processors by Apple Silicon code, which is ARM-based.   This would have an additional benefit of potentially allowing Windows to run on an iPad... new iPads are very capable.

No Ethernet Connection VMware Fusion 12 macOS Big Sur Beta 6

With the newly released version of VMware Fusion 12.0 I'm having the same problem I did with the Technical Preview in macOS Big Sur Beta 6.

When starting a Windows 10 x64 virtual machine, I receive the following error message:

Could not connect 'Ethernet0' to virtual network '/dev/vmnet8'.

More information can be found in the vmware.log file.

Virtual device 'Ethernet0' will start disconnected.

Has anyone found a solution to restoring internet availability in the guest virtual machine?

Cheers

Does anyone know if an Nvidia e-gpu would work with an Ubuntu VM on Catalina? Wondering if this could be used as an alternative to a baremetal Linux/Nvidia box for ML applications.

No sound after importing Parallels W8.1 VM into Fusion 12

I am new to VMWare.

I downloaded Fusion 12 onto my Mac (10.15.6), then imported a Parallels VM with Win8.1. Everything worked fine, I installed the VMware Tools. Rebooted the VM. I added the shared folders from my Mac I need for some of my Windows apps.

Everything works I just don't have any sound. Under Virtual Machine the sound card settings use System Default for input and output. I also tried Build-in Output and Built-in Microphone, but sound still does not work.

I have not figured out yet, how to get the sound to work.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Fusion 12 - EGPU with usb hub & network and is the GPU limited to AMD?

Hi,

This https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2020/08/announcing-fusion-12-and-workstation-16.html announcement advertises the eGPU functionality for the coming version of Fusion. How does this functionality work? Specifically I have the following questions:

  • Is the entire thunderbolt 3 PCI lane passed through to the virtual machine? Or is it only the eGPU of the connected thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosure?
  • Some eGPU enclosures have additional functionality such as a ethernet port and/or a usb hub. Will these additional ports be available to the host or the guest? Will it be possible to allocate USB devices connected to a eGPU enclosure to either the host or the guest?
  • Is the eGPU limited to AMD or can a NVIDIA GPU be passed through to the quest operating system (windows or linux)?
  • If the eGPU supplies power will this allow to charge my MacBook while passing through the GPU from the eGPU enclosure?

Best regards

Fusion Pro 12 Graphics Perfomance Poor

Just updated to 12 Pro from 11.5.6 Pro.  The graphics performance is noticeably slower.  Tried reinstalling VMware tools and tried different Display settings with no change.  Just using some apps for programming.  In the apps you can basically see it slowly rebuild a toolbar for instance one icon at a time basically.

VM is Windows 10 Pro with latest updates.  2 CPU and 4gb dedicated to it.

Mac is a 2017 MBP 3.1ghz i7 with 16gb ram and an AMD Radeon Pro 560 4gb with MacOS 10.15.6

Power off the virtual machine

When I shutdown the VM it still leave a big black window open with the start button in the middle. It gets closed when I quit VMware Fusion. In the VMware preferences I had set the Power off the virtual machine hoping it also would close this big black window. It does not.

Is there an option I have not found yet?

What I actually would want to see is the Virtual Machine Library from which I could start the VM I want. And when shutting down a VM I would want to get back to the Virtual Machine Library again (I have this in Parallels).

Fusion 12 Pro + Workstation 16 Pro licensing

$

I understood from Announcing: VMware Fusion 12 and Workstation 16 - VMware Fusion Blog - VMware Blogs that a licence for Fusion 12 Pro would be basically for 3 installations of Fusion 12 Pro and/or Workstation 16 (on Win/Linux).

So I bought the Fusion 11 Pro -> 12 Pro upgrade, downloaded it, installed it and applied the licence key. So far so good.

Then I downloaded Workstation Pro 16 ("full") on Windows 10, installed, and provided the licence key.

But when I start it, it starts up as "Workstation Player".

Have I misunderstood?

- should I get to use the full Workstation Pro version with my Fusion 12 Pro licence?

- or do I only get to use the *fully licensed" Workstation Player version (rather than the free "licensed for persoal use only" version)?
- or what?

Thanks!

Can I copy the VMs to an external disk and copy back when needed?

I would like to backup my 2 Windows VMs to an external disk. With Parallels I just had to copy the VM to an external disk, and if I ever needed to "restore" the VM I just copied it back to my local Mac folder. Worked like a charm.

Does this work with VMware the same?

Windows 10 VM not able to access network while host Mac Big Sur connected to Cisco AnyConnect VPN

Hello,

I just installed Big Sur after installing the new VMWare Fusion 12 for personal use. Before upgrading to Big Sur, my Windows 10 Virtual machine had internet access while on our Cisco Anyconnect VPN, but after updating to Big Sur, I only get internet on the Windows 10 machine when the VPN is disconnected. I have tried the Autodetect option, the WiFi option, removing and readding the NIC from the VM as well as from the Network adapter settings, all with no luck. Any ideas what I need to do to get this working? Thanks,

VMware Fusion 12 flicker problems on Mac Catalina 10.15.6

$

All of a sudden I had screen flickering problems running Windows 10 under Fusion 11. I regularly installed updates to Fusion and Mac OS as well as Windows 10 updates. Suddenly windows would not display and flicker as I moved the cursor around the screen. Browsers appear to work fine but when I try to open Settings or Power then I cannot proceed.

I've searched the community for suggestions but none of them have solved my problem. I even tried uninstalling Fusion and then installing a fresh copy of Fusion 12 but the problem remains. I don't know if the problem is with Fusion or Windows itself but now it is unusable.
