Can VMWare support AMD Radeon Pro display on Mac?

$

Hello. I'm a iMac Pro user who's looking to use a Windows partition to not only run Windows apps in the background, but to also use it for gaming and work purposes. I was wondering if there's a way that there's an option that'll allow VMWare to use the AMD display driver? I need it to make some functions working.

Get back with me soon. Thank you!

Fusion 12 applications menu: dark mode support?

Just curious: are there plans to add dark mode support also to the applications menu? It is still bright, in its main (lower) pane, even in dark mode. I understand that it might not be a so high priority, but sooner or later, maybe...?

VMWare Tools fails to install (Windows 7)

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 under VMWare Fusion 12, but certain drivers fail to install:

No idea what this is..

Screen Shot 2020-09-25 at 1.09.11 pm.png

Shared folders fails: (HGFS)

Screen Shot 2020-09-25 at 1.10.08 pm.png

VMWare Tools now asks to install Video driver as it's signed. (only appears on Windows 7)

How to install shared folders? As VMWare Tools now packages everything into "Setup" file. no more standalone drivers folder anymore.

Error on building docker image

I'm trying to build an image using vctl, but it seems I'm getting an error from the builder itself.

I run:

When I look at containerd.log, it says:

To me it looks like it's the builder container itself that is struggling. What could I be doing wrong?

Any hint appreciated.

Importing Virtual Box into Fusion 12 difficulties

$

HI all,

Having some difficulties importing a VM from VirtualBox into Fusion 12. First attempt with an Open format v2 export failed on import. Second attempt with a v1 .ova format is progressing. The import halted and prompt to attempt a retry with a lower HW standard I believe the message said. Does anyone know a better way to import a Virtual Box VM into Fusion 12? The VM is an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop that I use to run my house Wireless AP Controllers and Homebridge.

Thanks

Mouse cursor gets STUCK in VM

VMware Fusion 11.5.5 on macOS Catalina. When a virtual machine is booted, the mouse cursor often gets STUCK in the VM. This occurs with Windows and Linux guests.

The mouse remains STUCK until you do both of these things: (1) push Command+Control to manually release mouse cursor, and (2) Resize the VM window.

If you don't resize the VM window, clicking back in the window makes mouse cursor STUCK again.

Default To Pasting Last Copy Instead of List Pop-Up For Copy/Paste?

Is there a way to set VMWare Fusion to not present a list of the recently copied text items but rather simply just paste the last copied item? I've noticed when I copy text on my MacOS and then go to paste it in the VM Windows guest OS, a little pop-up comes up with a list of the 5 most recently copied items. I'd like it to simply default to the last copied item. Any settings that can be adjusted for this?

Thanks

Synchronizing Time

Why sometimes does Date/Time in taskbar in Windows not always equal to Time Zone? Does VMWare "Synchronize" option take priority ?

You install Windows server, and must manually select time zone after...  as well as clock on taskbar is incorrect..  where as in Windows 7 time/date are both correct, but Time Zone is incorrect.. (before installing Tools)

Windows 10 May 2020 Update ("2004")

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that has a 64-bit Windows 10 physical machine (Boot Camp) with the latest update (May 2020, a.k.a. "2004"). I also have a 32-bit Windows 10 VMware Fusion virtual machine that CANNOT be updated to version "2004" because of some compatibility issue (presumably, some problem with the refresh rate [?]). Is there a known solution to bypass this compatibility issue?

Poor refreshing of windows in Unity Mode running VMWare Fusion 11 on MacOS and virtualizing Windows 10

I am running a 2018 Mac mini (i7, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD) with the latest version of MacOS and I am virtualizing Windows 10 which is on 1903 with the latest version of VMWare Fusion 11.

To start, there are no performance issues, my issue is strictly a graphical issue and it is exclusive to the Unity Mode, in Single or Full Screen Mode everything is just peachy.

In Unity Mode I am seeing some graphics issues whenever I drag a window across the screen. For example, lets say I have the calculator app open in Windows 10 using Unity Mode and I drag the window from the left side of my screen to the right side of my screen, the movement of the dragging is anything but smooth. It looks like animations and frames are dropping and moving the window looks jaggy and jerky but nothing is hanging and as soon as I stop dragging the window everything is fine. It’s strictly a graphical issue with Windows 10. I also see it in the animations when I minimize an Windows 10 program, except here I only sometimes see it. It appears to be random to me. And this only occurs with Windows 10 programs, with MacOS programs everything is smooth as one would expect.

I’ve tried reinstalling VMWare tools, changing cores to 1, 2, and 3, increasing VRAM from 1gb to 2gb, turning off 3D acceleration, and I see no changes.

Is this expected behavior? Or what would be the fix?

Light gray vertical line on the left side of a VM in VMWare Fusion Player 12

Hi all,

I am running Windows 10 on the new VMWare Fusion Player 12 in Big Sur Beta 8, and while everything is fast and stable, there is an annoying vertical light gray line on the left side of the screen, (see attached)

Do you have any ideas how I can make this disappear?

Thank you!

Disable Access to Microphone

Hi, when adding a sound card to a virtual machine there are options for both input and output devices. Unfortunately I cannot find an option to disable the input device (microphone) for the VM.

Anybody know of a workaround to achieve this e.g. create a null device on the Mac?

Host CPU Usage high while VMWare guest OS is idle

$

I couldn't find any posts on this via the search function - probably because not many people are concerned about it.

I've noticed that my CPU usage is always around 35% (a little less if I tell VMWare to use only one core). Menu meters shows both cores using anywhere from 25-45% (but it includes other applications running). I would expect this if Vista/XP were doing something, but the OS is completely idle - this is a fresh install of the OS with just the bootcamp and vmware tools installed (this was the same when it was not the bootcamp partition, but rather a virtual disk with only vmware tools installed). CPU usage in Windows as reported by Task Manager floats between 0 and 3%.

I'm curious as to whether there will be optimizations done to reduce the CPU usage (noted in the host operating system via activity monitor) while the guest OS is idle. This would be beneficial for two reasons that I can think of:

1) Keeps the fans quiet - I find it kind of annoying when it keeps kicking in

2) Better battery life

It's not a serious problem for me, but the fan can be kind of annoying if it's kicking in regularly because the CPU is constantly in use. The better battery life isn't a problem for me, since I usually am only keeping windows running in the background when it's plugged in and I've got Windows on the notebook LCD and OS X on my 21" LCD.

Thanks!

Jordan
